Hehe... So, how many shots are in a "fifth" of whisky, vodka, etc... I think it's 750ml, but how large are shots?

Your typical shot is 1oz with a double shot being 2 Oz.

Using the conversions, in 750 ml there are about 25 shots.

Now, a question, a 1/5 of what?

Of a galon?

750 ML is .19 gallons...

YES!~! NoDoz speaks of the Evian bottle cut in half with a fillet knife. This shot glass is also known as "The Liver Killer".

When the term "a fifth" was popularized, it was in referrence to a fifth of a gallon (128 fl oz and a fifth being 25.6 fl oz).

To answer PFD's question... there are approx. 25 shots (from a 1 oz shotglass) or two shots for me and NoDoz, in a fifth. The remainder is the liquid that one drinks from the bottle to finish it off.

I bring you this information in full confidence and from my years of alcohol consumption I can testify to it. :p

So a shot is definately 1oz? I wasn't sure if it was 1 or 1.5 ounces... So in that case, drinking a 375ml or half a 750ml bottle of Jack Daniel's isn't half bad... :)

Man, we had to down a fifth of crown royal for our installs. That stuff be nasty as all hell. Feels like turpentine running down your throat. And I've had to smell some nasty yack in my life, heck, I've passed out in some nasty yack, but nothing, NOTHING, compares to the smell of a dozen or so shots of crown being vomited back into the atmosphere after swimming around in your stomach for 2 minutes, and deciding that it needs to find a new home. Nothing.

i duno how i wandered onto this website, but a 5th of any type of alcohol is 1.75 liters. Im calling you all out on being fake alcoholics. I so happen to have a 5th of captain morgans on my desk right now. and also a standard shot is an ounce and a half. i have a suspicion that none of you have ever purchased alcohol or drank seriously.

Well I used to work at a bar and "technically" a shot IS 1 oz, well at least as far as making a drink. But, most shot glasses are 1.5 oz (technically a called a jigger) so as most of us are familiar, as I know I am, there are about 18 shots in a fifth

HAHAHA i hope to make someone mad... it makes for a good convo...

I am 21 and I have won countless bets on shot sizes. It use to be that you could order shots by an oz but no longer is that day! we are not the old west any more! google dot com claims 1.5oz in one single shot. :::GASP::: what!? did he say!?

if that does not work, google "how many ounces in a shot" and google will tell you before any link using their calc that it is one point five ounces.

BOOM!

A fifth of liqueur equals one-fifth of a gallon.

1 gallon = 128 ounces
1/5 gallon = 25.6 ounces
25.6 ounces = 757.08236 milliliters (ml)
and what we are concerned with is a shot which is the subject of debate...

with your calc it would obviously would be 25 shots and 3/5 of a shot (6/2 and 10/2) per fifth

but with 1.5 oz a shot like google says it is actually 17.6 repeating

i just wanted to ignite the flame; so who contests this math?

I stumbled upon this site as I googled the words " how many shots in a 357 ml bottle". I registered only because I feel the need to clarify a few things and to bump this thread. A shot glass filled to the top actually holds 1.5 US ounces like others have said. The typical shot that a person would take is actually more equal to 1.25 ounces. Because of the bell shape of the glass the top holds more liquid than the bottom. Normally a shot is not filled to it's entirety leaving a little space which typically is around 1.25 ounces.

Also, just to stir up some trouble, none of you have chugged a fifth of any actual liquor. By actual liquor, I am referring to a full proof liquor which is usually around the 80 proof mark. That means that 40 or so percent of that bottle is pure alcohol. To make it easy, pretty much half of the bottle is pure alcohol. If anyone has actually done this they would either puke most of it out, or get alcohol poisoning. I think you are buying diluted liquor which is 42 proof and is able to be sold anywhere with a wine license, not a liquor license. These are usually sold at any gas station or grocery store.

Go to your local gas station and purchase a 750 ml bottle of Montebello Long Island Iced tea. If you can chug the bottle (42 proof - 21% alcohol) and still be standing, you are either obese, or an extreme alcoholic who needs immediate help.

An 8 year post. I love it! Now in looking up "how many shots in a fifth" on google, some people were bringing up the question "a fifth of what?". Well to my knowledge 2 1/2 fifths equals a half gallon. Therefore - now forgive me for doing drunken math - a fifth would be a fifth of a gallon.

Now on to the debate of whether a shot is 1 oz or 1.5 oz, I think that a true shot is 1 oz because if you fill it to the brim, your drunk $#@ will spill half of it. So by any reasonable measure, its 1 oz.

Might as well not waste any booze.

Just my 2 cents.

is this damn junior high... there are never ENOUGH shots in a fifth and that is all that matters... I buy my tequila in five gallon plastic buckets off the back of a truck... that is the only way to drink and drink well...
