Does sensationalism in the media hurt their credability? Like the year the child abduction, when actual numbers were down. Or Shark attacks. Or fear mongering.

How does this affect your perception of the media?

This is my number one issue with the media. Their refusal because of advertizing chasing to give the people what they want instead of what they need.

The media repeatedly shows dramatic stories involving individuals at the cost of informing the public of timely significant information.

Absolutely. It's painfully obvious that they are all in a ratings war with each other...and the stories they choose to show us, are chosen specifically to increase their own ratings, with no regard to presenting the news.
