Read an article yesterday article (http://abcnews.go.com/sections/GMA/AmericanFamily/Tiniest_bully_040217-1.html) and it was on bullies and such.

So I am curious...how many people were bullied in school...were the bully.

Did it affect your learning in school?

As for me I was one of the bullied. I was always a big kid but in grade school I didn't really know how to fight. I was usually the one the bullies picked on to make them selves feel better and to show off. "Look I can beat up the biggest kid in the class" type of thing, when in reality I either didn't know how to fight or/and was afraid to fight back cause I hated hurting people.

Anyway...this affected my school work as most of the school day instead of paying attention I was worrying so much about getting beat up at recess or after school that I was giving myself stomach aches.

The teachers all knew what was going on during recess but they were too busy drinking coffee and so forth.

There's more to this but I won't bore you with details

So .....discuss! :)

I got picked on a bit in grade school. I was the shortest in my class till graduation, look like I was still 5 years old in 4th grade. Big time baby face, I hated it! Even now I get "no! your not that old" I don't think it effected my education though, just made me insecure that I looked younger than my peers. Then in high school I was called Mickey(for the mouse), short stuff and things like that. All in fun though and from my close friends.. At least that’s how I saw it.:p

oh one more thing.. I got called space geek a few times. Guys would say to me that I was a geek because I was into the science stuff more than them.. That kind of made me sad, because at that age you want the guys to like you. :(

I got picked on alot for elementary and Junior High. I think it didnt affect my education.

After I my body filled out I started to stand up for myself. Once those *******s saw that I could kick ass they left me alone.

I was bullied in elementary and middle school, kinda. Never anything major, just teasing, etc.

It did, however, effect me academically. I probably did better in the classes where I was teased about being stupid because I was out to prove that I wasn't. Then I learned how to shrug off bullies' insults, and they went away.

I wasn't bullied in elementary school (I was kind of protected because I was the smallest kid in class), but that changed in junior high. I had put on a little weight over the summer (not a lot...I was on the high end of average) & was called fat, ugly, lard ass, etc. I was afraid to walk the halls alone & once in eighth grade brought pills to take (I was planning on OD'ing in the girls bathroom...yeah I know lame  ) I lost a lot of weight in 10th grade & was still called these names (I was so thin you could see my ribs, I wouldn't eat, I took diet pills, I wore a size 14 girls & passed out in school once.) Around this time I started skipping classes because I just didn't want to deal with the jerks in my class. I ended up dropping out of school in 11th grade because of harrassment by students & teachers (I had a teacher ask my male friends if they ever had sex with me & if I was pregnant; I gained back the weight I lost that year.)

So yeah, it affected my education. Of course a lot of the choices I made on my own, but if I wasn't bullied so much in school , I think I would've done better & I certainly wouldn't have dropped out.

I was both bullied and a bully. My high school was roughly 50% black. Most of the crap I got came from them. Crap like getting sucker punched in the mouth didn't set real well with me, so I ended up taking honors and AP classes just to quit having to deal with them on campus -- bus rides home were still a major pain in the ass though.

As a result I ended up being in classes with a buncha nerdy asians and whites. I picked on them, since they had no natural predators to give 'em crap.

**** flows downhill.

Through elementary and high school, I somehow managed to befriend the two most popular kids, and in effect, become the brainy kid in the popular group.

I guess I was lucky.

i was bullied at school

the bully is now serving 14 years for "manslaughter" (though it was actually murder, he just had a sleazy lawyer).

I was never really picked on at school thankfully. The only time I was in any danger of it was when I Came out during the holidays before I went backt o sixth form. A couple of guys thought it would be funny to make fun of me, but I had been through a lot the couple of years before that so it didn't bother me too much (also the fact I was good friends with most of the girls in the school, and their girlfriends made it quite clear that it was in their best interests to stop making comments about me might have helped a bit ;) )

Being more intellegent than my peers (Ya, thats how far the school systems have regressed, IM top of the class.) And rather awkward, ive always been picked on. I kind if dabble in almost everything but im not outstanding at any of it. I guess im pretty good in school (i have the smarts just not the work ethic :p) so i earn the nerdy badge but not the reverance that comes from that kid who knows everything. Ive fought a couple times, and in Jr. High it worked pretty well (when i finally got pushed enough to fight i won). THis yar its not so bad either now that i earn a certain respect from the guys being on the wrestling team.

I was always picked on, from grade school on up to college. I was skinny, wore glasses, hated by girls, considered stupid and had terrible looking hair which was curley like an afro. I got beaten up on a regular basis.

I was embarrassed in ways that I would not even talk about here. It was too terrible to remember, even now.

Finally I found that the way to avoid bullys is to just be quiet and fade into the background.

I suppose that is why I became an Anarchist. Because I believe that bullies still exist in real life. They are the Police, the Prison Guards, Dishonest businessmen, cheating Lawyers, Gansters, loansharks, Mortgage Brokers and anyone else who uses their power and position to get ahead.

I would also add that most people I know who are bullies as kids grow up to become Republicans. Its the party of bullies.

In elementary I was the bully..then the tide turned in Jr high and I was being made fun of ...by the time I got to HS I did neither...because I knew what it felt like to be on both sides....besides by the end of junior high I'd made friends with a bunch of the gang bangers ...who basically tought me how to stick up for myself -and stuck up for me..., so no one really ****ed with me...
Academically...when I was being made fun yeah ..it definitly affected my grades..because I would dread going to school and it messed with my concentration.... I was never really that academic anyway....but being bullied didn't help any....as for the lasting effects?...I'm extremely self conscious especially of how I look(shallow I know)...but the way I always looked at was if you look perfect on the outside..no one can tell how much pain you're in on the inside....
