View Full Version : Sexual cliche
Blondie 01-23-2004, 02:01 AM The classic cliche........when a girl has multiple partners she is known as a slut or a w****, and when she doesn't sleep around she is a prude. Yet is seems like when a guy has multiple partners it's no big deal, in fact some would argue that they are praised by fellow guys.
It may sound like a high school issue, but does the cliche hold any truth beyond senior year?

I think its just an immature issue.
Girls that sleep around are slutty to me. Guys that sleep around are slutty to me.
There's little difference, if any, to me.
And, there is just as much pressure/mocking the other way for guys than girls. A girl who WON'T mess around, may be considered prude, a guy who doesn't mess around will get homosexual innuendo/comments.
Again, I think your personal choices are whats best for you.
sea_lover 01-23-2004, 02:32 AM I think sometimes there is a certain "expectation" for guys to sleep around and for girls to "keep themselves clean" but I don't believe this holds as true today as it did years ago. With STDs and what not, we are certainly on a completely different playing field now than we were a couple of decades ago as far as being promiscuous and I would be more concerned about safety than how many partners someone had had beforehand.
seekerofvisions 01-23-2004, 03:10 AM i wonder if we'll ever move past this point, as a society. i think this issue is similar to the women's lib issue, women who are demanding equal treatment and such are considered to be 'butch' by some men, 'ballbreaker' by others... it's a lose/lose situation for women.
Monster 01-23-2004, 03:21 AM Personally, I don't consider women who have had multiple partners to be sluts or wh()res based solely on that. If they're unattached, and have a high sex drive but no single person to engage that sex drive with all the time, why the hell not?
I think that part of the reason this happens is because guys have an inate desire to hold women as higher than ourselves. We're allowed, but the women are supposed to be softer, gentler, better than we are in terms of class and...just being...I dunno...higher up somehow. We place women on a pedestal, for the most part, and when a woman steps down from that pedestal onto our level, it has the appearance of a much greater social fall than when a guy does the same thing. It's all perceptions.
I ask myself why women are put to such standards as they are today. I think both men and women are aware of how important women are to our lives. How they look, act, and dress matters. It also matters how they speak, the everyday choices they make, and how they deal with others.
I say raise the bar.
There is no such thing as a slut. Think about it.
igofast 01-23-2004, 03:57 PM Someone that sleeps around for reasons other than their own pleasure is a slut. (such as furthering a career, making them feel better about themselves, etc) Someone that sleeps with lots of people because they're horny and single is just horny and single.
People call me a slut, I don't really care, doesn't bother me. If you have a problem with how I live my life, then don't associate with me.

You wouldn't bang a a femal record executive to get a sweet record deal?
I would. Sometimes you need to chalk it up to you gotta do what you gotta do.

Nope, I'd bang a female record exec to get sex. If the record deal came with it, icing on the cake.
Criminal 01-23-2004, 07:06 PM Well I am a man who would rather spend time at an art exhibit or at a play than staying at home watching TV. I do have an artistic streak. I do like gardening. (No I am not gay ether).
My wife, and this is the funny part, is a really handy women. She has more tools than I do and likes to fix stuff around the house. IF something does not work... she is all over it.
Unrepresented 01-23-2004, 07:59 PM Who a person chooses to sleep with tells you quite a bit about them.
It doesn't have to be quantity alone, but it usually points to something if they're so interested in trying out so many.
