It really depends on who, where, and when.

Street racing has been aroung a LONG time... if its done on deserted private roads back in industrial areas its not the end of the world... but by no means does it make it legal.

However people who just race on normal streets are just plain lacking in the mental department...

I only raced my car once....he had a 1995 V6 and I beat him...but thats when I first got my stang....

Now he done some mods, we will race again, but were taking it to the track :-)

For the most part, I keep it at the track, but once in a while on the right road, right circumstance, I'll give someone a 0-40, 0-60 run, but I keep the speeds down...

no, it is stoopid. I posted my thoughts on this in another thread similar... can't remember where, and I can't remeber my thoughts to repost :D

Its all fun until you get the ticket, but I had it coming. Between 88 and 95 I probably participated in 300 or more street races, most of them on deserted back roads in the middle of the night. I can truthfully say that it was the best rush of my life. I ditched or completely outran 4 cops that I can remember but never got caught until 95. Haven't done it since, not worth it. I had a Civic rev at me awhile back, just wouldn't let it go. I gave him just a little bit, since he hit me with a 100 horse shot, and it still was no contest. I usually see 15 cops a day on the road, just not worth it anymore and I guess thats why I haven't had a single ticket for anything in 7 years.

No its all in the fun till you kill some one like this young kid did here in Dallas on 635....

Now they want him in prison :-( he was under 25 yrs old in a Sports car...

Does it qualify as "street racing" if you have a V6 Mustang? :D

Manu

Dave, think it is more approriately posed as 'driving' lol. Just giving ya hell PB, its all in fun.

I agree mostly with what SS said. 0-40 or a 0-60 run in a non residential area I would do (and have a few times)

But the insane, twisy, residential area 80+MPH runs are just insane...

Scotts right, take it to the track.

SilverStreak
02-19-2002, 01:17 PM
Yeah, Manu, I agree, common sense and judgement has to come into play. There is a road near my house that is almost like a free way, it's 6 lanes wide corn fields on either side, out of season, it's flat, it's straight, and about 3 miles long, 1-2 lights tops, 55 mph speed limit. Making a go of it from 0-60 with no other cars around I feel is pretty controlled and fun.

But racing threw residential neighborhoods, city blocks, or twisting roads is just asking for trouble....

The track is great for letting off steam, competing and, having fun and keeping safe, and auto-x is awesome for the twisty stuff.

NOS.....laughing gas......gotta love it though. tickets can be paid off. insurance goes up, bummer but the thrill of smokin the lil popcornfart of an import just makes it all worth while. trying to outrunn the cops is just plain suicide here in cali. i agree. aside from the rush not worth it anymore

I know a few people that wish they hadn't run into me:D

I draw the line where I think it might get crazy, but beyond that I need an almost daily 0-60 fix against someone. I used to do most of my driving out in the countryside, but the roads have gotten so much more crowded out there I can hardly hit over 50..so I don't bother anymore.

Nice thing with the V6 is there is always some fool who keeps you entertained

You must be thinking about the Camaro.

buggy
03-18-2002, 12:10 PM
I'm a total Mustang nut, but even I know that a stock Camaro is a fast mofo'! A '99 Camaro is much more powerful of the lot than a V8 off the lot, and we were talking about V6s... so you can see where I'm going with this ;)

Camaros are fast bastards, too much they fall apart!

Of course not, SS! That thing is a monster! LOL

I was speaking of off the lot stock! :)

I don't understand why someone that wants a hot rod, or a pure rush of American Muscle would purchase a V6 - this isn't a 'dog' by the way, I really don't get it. I always thought V6 Mustangs were a fuel efficient replica of a sports car.

Granted, I am not in sync with the "there is no replacement for displacement" mentality... it is still a curiousity ;)

Nope Cristina, I'm in full agreement with you on that. And my remark was aimed more at Redline's assertion of that "nobody" beats the SS.

If you get a pony car, get the 8, it's a little more cash, and little more insurance, but if you're spending that kind of money for a slightly less than practical car, go all out!

If you get the V6 to be practical, get another style of car and be more practical. If you get the 6 cuz you want the 8 but can't swing it, get a used 8 or wait and save more money for the 8...

Just one guy's opinion... ;)

Babs, that's great that you are getting a TA WS6, congrats.

But, if memory serves, you're getting a wuss-o-matic, correct? ;)

buggy, do A4 f-bodies count??? :D

In speaking of terms of power off the lot, sure!

Granted, I'm a PoMoFo :D so... my hopefully low eleven second Mustang will of cost a total of uh, 7K-8K! :)

I got me a wuss-o-matic... dude, it was literally free. Rebuilt AOD w/race parts. I can beat the shit out of it...! :D

Maybe when the time calls, I can grab a 3550 or something. ;)

We were thinking of sticking a rebuilt AOD into my husbands car, he has a shitload of power up top, but a stock T5. He's gone mid 11s... everytime he makes a pass, I am like, squinting praying "Please don't break, please don't break" LOL!!!

ATM, I am on the look out for a used TKO for him... :)

God, I love this hobby!

Edit: And yes, very wishful thinking on the low 11 second... since I want power steering and AC :) But hey, a girl can dream, can't she?

I have well over 300 street races under my belt. Went through 3 engines and 2 T-5's in my original 85 GT, outran or outsmarted 5 cops until I got the BIG ticket. You don't want the big ticket. It cost me beaucoup dollars, but I still managed to get it off my record. Just not worth it anymore. I don't mean to sound old but it isn't as easy as it used to be. Hell, cops will arrest you for jaywalking these days.

Around here there are more POS F bodies than you can shake a stick at. Those things are so damn ugly. You could put 1000 horsepower in those cars and I still wouldn't own one. Cheaply built, plastic POS cars with a hand me down engine. Thankfully they are no longer produced. In 10 years most of them will have been wrapped around trees and no longer exist on the highways. I can't wait.

I'm a v8 Mustang person myself but I've seen one v6 car that was badass and I would LOVE to have. It was a 1987 Buick Grand National. Saw that car smoke 2 11s Mustangs on a side street back home in Bama. I'm trying to find one out here in Cali but they are all 10,000 or better, and I'm a really pomofo, so. Stangs are bad but be careful you dont come up on the wrong v6.;)
