that I'm not sure if i'm gonna take.

My friend Anna has a weekly radio show (on radio freerepublic) and she asked me to co-host her show on Thursday, Jan. 8. Her show rocks, and I'm totally flattered that she even considered me. The guest on her show that day is going to be the son of Dr. James Dobson, Ryan Dobson, and he'll be talking about his new book... called 'Be Intolerant: Because Some Things Are Just Stupid' >click< (http://www.multnomahbooks.com/BookDetail/Default.asp?BookID=1588)

aaugh, I'm kinda torn. On the one hand I'd love to do it, but on the other hand... I have a fear of public speaking, and I'm not as articulate as Anna.... and I don't want to make a fool of myself. |I I can picture me with the 'Cindy Brady' syndrome, as soon as the 'on air' red light goes on, going completely blank like a deer in the headlights. :D ehh, I dunno. Besides, I have to work that day and i'd have to leave work early to do this. :hmm:

You should do it.

Anna is a chatterbox, she will carry you.

If you need to, write crib notes, little things to ask and comment on concerning hos his book affects you.

All the times I called in, I felt all I was doing was parroting her, just repeating what she already said.

Think of it as a casual conversation, and if need be, call Ryan a few days before the show to get familiar with him, ask him the same questions about the book, take notes, that way, when you go on the show, you will be a step ahead, and on the ball!

You can DO IT!

The Miscreant

Definitely go for it - you'll be nervous at first, but you'll adapt very easily. No direct, visible audience, just smooth, cool airtime.

Just make sure you don't read anything on air - it's easy to get out of breath if you are just a little bit nervous, but you won't be as perceptively nervous as you would be in person. IN other words, people probably won't know if you're nervous.

Just breathe, speak clearly, and have fun.

Hey Cindy!

Gosh, I could never do it. I could never get the nerve to call in even though I'm cool with Anna, Marian (when she did the show), Lisa, and Liz.

Yeah, that Cindy Brady syndrome. I wouldn't know where to begin.

I am a little curious to how they (Agitator or Bob J) set something like this up. I'm assuming you'll be doing this from Sac-town if you're doing this right after work.

Well, while you're talking, just look at your suroundings and try to keep your mind off of the people listening. Once you get a hold of that, it will be easy to speak. I don't think of radio broadcasts as public speaking. Although it is to the public, you don't have to see their faces.:) Good luck and go for it!. You'll do great.

Don't I know it. I went for a drama class to fulfill that requirement. Figured I could get by better hamming it up and it did the trick. :D

Wish I had that option in the 10th Grade when I had to do a legitimate speech class. Ack! My most torturous semester.

If you decide not to do this, you'll still have my respect. If you do, you'll have my support and prayers.

You'll have to tell me about that miracle sometime at your convenience. :)

Just to update anyone who's interested. I said I'd do it, but.... I'm still not sure I can do this. Seriously.

(for those of you who are with me on this public speaking thing) you know that feeling you get before you have to give a speech? I think some of you know the feeling I'm talking about... I'm already feeling that way and this thing is 2 days away. :(

this is really lame, I know. Someone :slap: me.

So what.

You heardme call in then. Do I sound intelligent? All I do is try to parrot what they say in an intelligent maner!

She can chat up quite well. Just think of it as girls talking, in a way, then do it.

Try this: Keep a phone next to your ear. I mean that. I am a riot on the phone, I dont know why, but my sense of humor comes out more when on the phone, but in person, I am a totally serious person.

So, keep a phone next to your ear! :)

but that's pretty funny that that works for you. :b

btw, I heard you today call in on one of the archived shows. You sounded great!! You were well-spoken and yeah, you did sound intelligent.

Alan - yeah...I know it's sad. I didn't say anything before cause she asked me not to. I'm hoping it's just a sabbatical, and not really the end of the show. But she's got other (exciting) things going on right now... she and her husband are working on a script right now for a major movie company.... plus she wants to just have more time for her family. She's got 3 little kids now!

Thanks colonel! :)

I was one number away from calling, but figured with RB calling in and time short, I wimped out.

What I wanted to say, besides thanking AnnaZ for her show and on her future projects, was that, as your agent, I got ya a gig to fill-in for Rush Limbaugh on open-line Friday. ;)

Betcha you're glad that's over with.

A bit of monday morning quarterbacking, and moot since it's Anna's last show: I wished she would have let you read the articles and have her supply the reaction since she's so dominating. That would have worked out grrrrreat!

It was not my intention to take up the time like that, I thought the lines would be stacked with callers saying goodbye!

AnnaZ (Bubbles) had the hottest radio show on FR since the beginning of Radio FR, only to have so many good ones now.

I am more of a stoic Fundamentalist than an Evangelical. He did say some good things, especially the emphasis on SIN, not just certain sins, and that is one thing that the Church is lacking today for sure.

But I am not into the modern Christian Music, and he was talking about some groups he likes that I try to stay awy from.

Ah, yes, the demon thread. That brought back memories.
(Note for lurkers: the "demon thread" was a thread that posted a picture of one of the Gore/Bradley debates that showed what appeared to be a demon face in the background behind the podiums. It was a fun thread.)

And, yes, heard you get in that DA plug. Kudos!

Don't bother listening to the replay. I just heard it. I sucked, especially in the first segment of the show. The thing was, it was mostly unrehearsed (cause if I knew in advance every story she was going to bring up it would've sounded staged) and well... I just didn't have any good quick replies... I just laughed at the funny stories she brought up.

I just had to get that off my chest, I'm done now.
