Ok I have hated my job over the past few months...between co-workers not doing their jobs and me having to clean up to keep us looking good and other departments doing major projects that affect users and not testing it completely only to have the helpdesk flooded with calls....I am going crazy at work.

It is at the point where my skin crawls when I hear the phone ring.

Now here is the kicker...even though I am seriously not liking my job I am doing really well.

Recent stats here show I take 40% of the calls that come in, which is more than anyone else here at the helpdesk, and I close about half of those on first contact with the user. I get about 2-3 users writing my boss a week saying how much they like me and how good a job I am doing. I come in early if needed and my boss and boss' boss loves me.

So how can you hate a job and yet do so good at it. On my worst days I feel like I am slacking and borderline apathetic with the users and those seem to be the ones that write raving about me to my boss.

I am con-fus-ed.

Why don't you like your job?

What would you rather be doing?
Would doing what you would rather be doing be good for you and your family?
Are you always unhappy with your work... or just have bad days?

I am sick of dealing with the same stupid users everyday over the same stupid questions.

What would you rather be doing?
I would love to be working in a zoo or something with animals or doing field research on animals

Would doing what you would rather be doing be good for you and your family?
it would be good for my mental health but not for my paycheck

Are you always unhappy with your work... or just have bad days?
Yes to both. I have bad days and I also am not happy with what I am doing. If it was less phone work and more project work I might I imagine I would be much happier.

You want to work in a zoo.
You like animals.
You realize even with a fancy title of animal researcher you will spend most of your day cleaning a monkey cage or making a Komodo Dragon ejaculate.

No that is if you work at a zoo you do that. if you do field research you spend days and days in the wilds of alaska hoping to see sign of a bear to study only to have one sneak up behind you and maul you.

Friend of mine who I went to college with is in alaska doing studies on geese, merlins as well as wolves. He has been charged by Grizzlies 2-3 times.

He also got stuck in an outhouse for 3 hours when a bear decided to sleep in the field between his cabin and the outhouse.
