Is marriage a social construct? Is it a personal one? Is it a civil construct?
Why do you (or don't you) want to get married? Social reasons? Civil reasons? Religious reasons? Love? All? Some mix?
love, religous reasons I guess.

I think it's a personal contract performed for society within a civil jurisdiction.
Bear in mind, however, contracts are rarely binding unless defined by mutual religious (or some form of moral agreement) understanding.
The courts and society only provide a means of legalization and beneficial services.
In my own case, I was just as happy living with her as I was married to her. Of course, when she started talking kids I was happy that the neighbors weren't pointing at my kid walking down the street saying "..there's one of Redline's l'bastards.."hehe:p

I'll get married for love. It's not about social constructs for me.
Marriage is about spending your life with your best friend -- the person who loves you unconditionally. It's about not being alone. It's about coming home after a long day at work and having someone greet you with a hug. It's about supporting someone because they support you. It's about helping someone live their dreams, and then receiving the same assistance. It's about creating a life with someone and choosing -- everyday -- to nurture that life.
The best part about the thought of marriage (for me at least) is having a partner to navigate life with.

I find it personal: if I want to, and that's the only thing. Right now, I'm hardly ready for that step simply because I enjoy my freedom.

Though im sure peolpe chuckled, thats a great point.
I mean, how does marriage differ (save religiously and civilly) from a 'life partner' other than a more 'binding' and 'obvious' relaltionship?
Its like marking ones terrirtory, all with a gold band.
For me, marriage is about my relationship...its about love, devotion, and the 'permanent' pledge that this is it, forever.
The civil aspects of marriage are good 'bonuses' but thats not really anything to do with it for me. Neither is religion. Its really about title almost, but what the title mean,s not the title for titles sake...

I agree it certainly can have a more powerful effect than just a public claim to a breeding partner, love is certainly a powerful feeling.:)
