Ok. I found this tv I really liked at BB. It is a 32" sony HDTV monitor (no decoder built in). It is on sale for $1699. Here is the link to it on BB (http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=11052544&m=1&cat=24&scat=26)

Should I go ahead and spend the big bux on the HDTV or just stick with the 32" Wega (http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=11052511&m=1&cat=24&scat=26) or for a few hundred more get the 36" Wega (http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=11052513&m=1&cat=24&scat=26) ? They are 899 and 1299 respectively, and the HDTV is 1699.

Is the HDTV worth the extra? I understand I will have to buy a progressive scan DVD player to have full digital picture from a DVD, but the 2 Wega's have componet input, which my current DVD already has.

I assume as time goes by, HDTV will become more main stream, and prices should go down... correct?

Maybe I will buy myself one for my BDay and take advantage of the 24 month no interest :D

whatcha think?

Well, my folks have a 49" HD, and they're NICE. Hard to say if they're $1699 worth of nice, but I guess it depends on how much you would use it.

prob only for DVD's. We have Cox digital cable, but it has no componet out's on it... only Svideo. I can get that quality from a regular TV. I'm just afraid of investing $$$$ into HDTV and it go the way of the laser disc

The real question. How big is the room you plan on having the TV? Is itin the living room of a small apartment, large apartment, small house, or large house? Or is it going into the bedroom? I'd have to say get the 36' for a large house, maybe a small house. But if its going into your bedroom, dish out for the HDTV. If you live in an apartment, I'd say go wtih teh 32' WEga. You asked for opinions, I'm just being VERY thorough.

thx for those opinions... sound good

I am putting this in our living room. It is about 12x28ish It is a livingroom/dining room. I have an Armoirre that will hold up to a 36".

I am pretty sure I would spend the extra 200 bux to get the 36" but if I get the HDTV, I will only get a 32"

When they get cheaper, I would make sure to get one with a video port, so I could plug my pc in. And if you are really think of getting one of the two, I would go to an electronic store, and check them out. The internet is good for shopping, but it leaves out some details.

The 16X9 monitors are nice, some have progressive scan built in. I like to watch DVDs a lot, so I want one. HD DVD would really be nice. Hope they work the bugs out ofthe blue laser soon.

make sure you get the service plan :)..

(oh god..i've been brainwashed by best buy)

no...but actually..i'd lean tward getting it for the sets..because they need the electron guns alighned and stuff....and the service plan is IN HOME...so they come to your house and take care of you

I never get the service plan... you get a warranty to begin with. I think it is what, 150 bux for the service plan? I would rather take my chance :)

I say that now, yet, I will prob change my mind later

I think the one's I like have 16:9 mode

One thing you have to be sure of is that it has the HDTV tuner for that much... if it is just "HDTV Ready" then you have to buy a tuner if you plan on ever using the HDTV for actual TV (I think theres like 2 HDTV stations right now)

But Id say if you got the cash, blow it

nope, they are HDTV ready. I would have to get a tuner or a progressive scan DVD player to really take advantage of it :(

that is why I am kinda leaning towards the 36" wega.
