People have brought this up before, why do people (me included) view things done/said/amonunt of drinking with pride or as a badge of honor.
Is kind of like the girly drink vs. manly drink thread...what about it makes it 'cooler' of you to binge, or take shots versus drink wine coolers?

Very very good topic. It seems that everyone wears their big nights like a badge of honor. People also like to brag of their "tollerance". Strange indeed. Alas, I do it too...

to be totally honest...i have no pride in my drinking..
which is why i don't understand why manu puts me down when i cut myself off....and he urges me on.
there is nothing glamerous about drinking. I drink for the relaxing feeling i get from it...and the taste....nothing more

We view tolerance as a sign of strength. It's tough, it's cool, it's macho.
Unfortunately, it also leads people into drinking more - because they can drink more - they will - which pushes them further toward developing alchoholism.
It's all done in fun. But there are times when retarded people make bad decisions. Hopefully noone will get hurt as a result.
My wife was voted "porcelain goddess" at her college dorm. I may have to remove her official certificate from our scrapbook for fear of having to explain what it means to our kids.

I always wondered about that... wouldn't it be cooler to have a low tolerance? You can get drunk on much less and therefore can afford the good stuff... you aren't drinking Nat Light because you LIKE it, right?

Because we're aggressive creatures by nature, and as surrogates for beating/stabbing the crap out of everything in sight go, silly drinking competitions and the subsequent bragging are pretty good?
