Wine coolers are obviously for chicks. Variations on them like the various hard lemonades and Smirnoff Ice's are womenstuff as well.

Mixed drinks become a little more difficult to identify. I propose that we clearly divide the basic drinks between male and female so that all DAers can navigate the bar or the grocery aisle without making a gender faux pas.

Mine:

Men:
- Beer, the stouter the better.
- Most hard liquors. Feel free to list exceptions.
- Shots.

Gray area:
-Mixed drinks (help on this is requested)

Women:
- Wine coolers
- Liqueurs
- Wine

I think the fruitinessof a mixed drink helps determine the categroy.

1. Rum and Coke. Not for the faint of heart (i.e women)
2. Lime Margarita. Its blended. But its bitter. Borderline
3. Strawberry daquari. Its fruity. Its blended. Its for women.

The truth is in the fruit.

In terms of shots:

Men: Snake Bites
Women: Apple Pucker

How about Gin and Tonic? I think that's pretty manly. How about a White Russian? I mean, The Dude drank them! :D

What the hell is a snakebite? Where I come from that involves cider and Guinness, like a Black Velvet minus Champagne plus beer.

No, but it's a cultural thing.

Practically everyone here drinks beer, so there's very little male monopoly over that drink.

Most of my female friends drink vodka and whiskey, straight up. Most guys I know drink those smirnoff and mikes hard coolers. Shots are generally considered girly, since 90% of them are blue/red/purple and taste like candy.

Most American beers have 5% or so alcohol content. You can verify this by searching online. Well, unless you're in Oklahoma. :p

San Antonio, Texas makes several fine malt liqours that masquerade as beers - namely, Colt 45.

There is nothing wrong with a good Chardonnay, especially if the bottle has a stubby holder stretched to the max over it, to give you something to hang on to without getting the Chardy all hot and loathsome.

Cointreau on ice is divine. (just make sure you drink it before the ice starts to melt or we get into that whole fish farted in stuff again)

But Irish whiskey, in a shot glass is heaven on a stick.
