My 7yr old son pointed out to me that in the cartoon show "Garfield and friends" about the fat orange cat, there is a character named
Al J. Swindler, with dark hair, a huge ugly nose and he loves money and likes to swindle and cheat Jon Arbuckle (Garfield's owner) out of money. Contact the official Garfield website at www.garfield.com to Protest.

"There is a character named Al J. Swindler, with dark hair, a huge ugly nose and he loves money and likes to swindle and cheat Jon Arbuckle. We will be posting this wonderful character on a number of neo-Nazi web sites and also selling the images on T-shirts, baseball caps, and mugs. Naturally, we will give Garfield's creators full credit."

"In order to show our appreciation, could you let us know what percent of our gross sales we need to send your organization to pay for this privilege?"

Thank you

I have a feeling you won't be seeing this character on TV any more.

Al J. Swindler , an anti-semitic sterotype?

The character of Al J. Swindler who appears in some episodes of Garfield and Friends, is that supposed to be an anti-semitic sterotype??

For the Garfield movie, coming out in June 2004, I was thinking they could have a cool Jewish person as a character and his name would be
something like "Mike Goldman" that way young children would learn tolerance and respect for the Jewish people in this age of rising Jew-Hatred. In the Garfield Movie, their are several talented Jewish celebrities, Debra Messing as Arlene, Stephen Tobolowsky as Walter J. Chapman, and Geoffrey Gould as the Milkman.
A cool Jewish character like "Krusty the clown" on the Simpsons.

Rabbi Jerry? Isn't that the name of the Rabbi in the long running joke on SF?

Not exactly. Near as I can tell, a majority of the WNs advocate removal of all non-whites (read:aryans) from America, but not necessarily their extermination.

The WNs here at DA would be the best ones to ask about that.

(and if you've never heard the term White Nationalist before now, join the club. I never had, either, nor are we alone)

What about the vicious anti-semitic stereotypes of Gargamel and his cat Azrael?

Hey Rabbi Jerry

Did you hear the joke about the jewish kid who asked his father for $20.

His dad said, "TEN DOLLARS!?! What you want 5 dollars for?"

Isn't there a characther in Family |Guy called Mick Gpolman or somthing similar

I didn't know their was a Garfield movie coming out.

Also today i was wondering whether Debra Messing was really Jewish or not as the actor who plays Will isn't actually homosexual apparently.

How do you fit six million jews in a Volkswagen?

Two in the front, two in the back and the rest in the ashtray.

Its a shame that you see hatred in a childrens cartoon. Its even more sad that a 7 year old sees hatred in a cartoon.

Why do you feel up in arms about it? Im hardly writing to the Simpsons saying that Groundskeeper Willie is an evil portrayl of my heritage. Oh they made him stingy, underwearless, a peeping tom, prone to violent outbursts and criminal activities - big deal.

Its a cartoon...stop trying to make life boring.

No, that's Rabbi WIll Rosencratz. Actually, my first thought was that Jerry was that same person, but I don't think it is.. not creative enough.

omfg.. you are NUTS!!! Seriously dude--you are taking this "anti-semite" thing WAY over the edge. Just because a Garfield character is a stingy, unethical, sneaky salesman doesn't mean he's supposed to be Jewish. You're too sensitive and you need to chill out. I'm not racist, ant-semitic, or against any religion, or ethnicity for that matter and I have always loved this show--especially the episodes w/ Al Swindler!!! He's in four episodes (that I recall) and they are my faves. Never once have I thought they were making fun of Jews. They are making fun of dirty, sneaky salesmen and Jon Arbuckle's ignorance--he gets taken every time !!

1) Lemon Aid: Al J. Swindler (of "Swindlah' Discount Motahs!!") plays a used car salesman who tricks Jon into selling him his car, telling him he's won a "new" one, and then makes him take this old junker that's falling apart!!! Tons of fun...

2) Skyway Robbery: Swindler plays a pilot (of none other than "Swindler Discount Airlines"), and tells Jon he can take him to Miami for 77 bucks ("and don't worry...if you don't have enough to getcha to Miami, I'll drop ya off somewhere in Tennessee!" hahaha  ...."We're gonna be travelin' non-stop from one end o' the airport to the other, where we're gonna all hafta get out 'n' push!!")

3) Wonderful World: Al Swinder plays a carnie (yes, one of those loveable characters at the carnival..."Step right up and win!! See how easy it is, folks???") and manages to (once again) cheat Jon Arbuckle out of all of his money!

4) Home Sweet Swindler: The final (unfortunately) Al Swindler episode. Al plays several home repair guys, including a doorbell repairman, a plumber, and a roof repairman. Each time he comes to the house, he breaks something else so that the clueless Jon Arbuckle will require his "services" again!

But, Rabbi, if you were hoping that the show wouldn't have this character anymore, I'm sad to say you got your wish. The show doesn't run anymore (it hasn't for 13 years--only reruns). It won't ever run again either--at least it wouldn't be the same if it did, since Lorenzo Music, the voice of Garfield, died in 2001. :( Rest in peace, Garfield. We'll miss ya.

Why would someone create a new DA account to revive a thread that's been dead for three and a half years?
