A friend of mine used to say his favorite hobby was to drink beer. Now his liver is the size of Cleveland, but he is okay. Do it a few times and get it out of your system. Then find a hobby that improves your health rather than hurt it. Be careful. alcohol is one of the most dangerous drugs available today.

I like pot better. Drinking gives me a buzz, but in a sickish way. But its legal, unlike pot, so I end up doing it more often than I would usually.

I graduated from college, needless to say, haven't touched it sense. I get nothing from it. Maybe a beer socially, but haven't had a need to.

Not sure I'd say my FAVORITE hobby, but I find myself drinking to excess about once a month. I don't really 'social' drink. I just drink, have a good time, and really don't drink until I pass out or vomit...that I never understood. I know my various thresholds and maintain them...

Alcohol can not only taste good, but also does give a pleasurable buzz...

Though I do see myself 'growing out of it' within the next few years as college ends..

I never really got into drinking to get drunk when I was younger and certainly not now.

But I have acquired a real taste for wines in the last 5 years or so. My wife and I will take day trips to wineries, go to wine festivals, tastings, we subscribe to magazines about wines (Wine Enthusiast, etc), listen to radio shows about wines, watch specials on the Food Network, and we really enjoy/appreciate a good glass of wine.

But it's controlled, I'd say we have 1 glass of wine at dinner 5-7 times a week, we cook in most nights, but that's it, we rarely even have a 2nd glass at a meal.

So in a way, I guess you could say that consuming alcohol is sort of a hobby for us... :)

I got blood alcohal poisoning once, and it really sucked. Big time. 16 beers (Bud) in an hour outside in 100 Degree weather at a concert... not too smart on my part. I was only 15! LOL. Nothing like gettin your stomach pumped. But yeah, I hate beer now. I gag at the smell of it. But I love my liquer! Nothing more fun than going to a club and gettin a little buzzed to loosen ya up!

Im with Linz....there is a few things that i can no longer drink due to almost dying from them (though my experience was passing out in a shower when my friends tried to sober me up....I passed out over the drain). So now one of my no-longer-can-drink-drinks is Tequila.....damn.

Rum and coke? Weak! Real men drink Irish whiskey and listen to the Pogues!

I'm a big fan of alcohol, but there'll be no drinking for the next month and a bait due to impending exams and the need to actually work out what it is that people have been trying to teach me over the course of the year. Once the exams are over though, Bacchus will be left standing....

Since my turning 21, I've made drinking beer an almost daily thing. My friends all laugh at me, and a couple show genuine concern. Its not like I'm drinking to get smashed, but more because I love a good beer. Something to it, I don't know. And it has to be a good beer. I'll refuse a cheap domestic anywhere besides a party, but I'll take a nice well-pored guinness anywhere, anytime.

Oh, try boddington's. Excellent beer, just excellent.

My hobby is starting to cause me problems. I keep doing stupid stuff lately. I get drunk passout wake up and not know it. Im like sleepwalkin or something and never rember what tha hell i did. This has happened a few times in the past few months. Oh well Im still gona drink, just gota learn to control myself a little bit more.

ResidentRice

See, I think when that kind of thing happens with regularity, you can't call drinking a hobby. Honestly, when I was a freshman I did so many stupid things drunk.....I don't even want to talk about it here. But if you find yourself being affected by your drinking habits even when you're sober, then you're in trouble.

Is drinking really all THAT great? Why? Does one learn to enjoy the smell of their own vomit?

ResidentRice

2 types of drinking.

Drinking to drink.

Drinking to get sh*tfaced.

Not everyone who drinks in college always drinks just to make that "4" look like an "8" for the night.

One should always be drunk. That's all that matters;
that's our one imperative need. So as not to feel Time's
horrible burden one which breaks your shoulders and bows
you down, you must get drunk without cease.

But with what?
With wine, poetry, or virtue
as you choose.
But get drunk.

And if, at some time, on steps of a palace,
in the green grass of a ditch,
in the bleak solitude of your room,
you are waking and the drunkeness has already abated,
ask the wind, the wave, the stars, the clock,
all that which flees,
all that which groans,
all that which rolls,
all that which sings,
all that which speaks,
ask them, what time it is;
and the wind, the wave, the stars, the birds, and the clock,
they will all reply:

"It is time toget drunk!

So that you may not be the martyred slaves of Time,
get drunk, get drunk,
and never pause for rest!
With wine, poetry, or vitrtue,
as you choose!"

Charles Baudelaire

I followed someone else into this thread through Who's Online and figured I'd bump it with a reply.

Beer. Ah....

I drink one a day through the week and enough to get a nice buzz once during the weekend (generally about 6 Bud Ice). Once ever three months or so, I'll get up with some buds and get truely wasted. I've learned to read my body pretty well and I always know when to stop before it's puke time. I haven't shouted at my shoes in years 'n' years.

Used to, I didn't drink any through the week, but with all the recent medical findings about the benefits of having one beer or a glass of wine a day, I figured I might as well. It's rare that a vice turns out to be healthy in moderation, so I wasn't gonna pass it up. :D

I love alcohol. Mostly beer, though.

Every once in a while I indulge in some Cuervo Gold or single malt scotch, preferably Lagavulin...
