This great archeological goldmine is being looted daily. From Mosul to Nasiriyah, where some of the first great cities of civilization began, history is being exploited for money, and utterly torn apart by war.
It is a shame that such a historically valuable land is being ransacked and destroyed. Trying to save these treasures of human society should be a great concern to many of us, but I feel it is not. Who will get kicked of survivor next seems more important to some people.
Other than a sense of history I don't see the point in keeping many of these relics around. Nostalgia I suppose.
I hate survivor.

Saddam did more damage to ancient treasures than anyone else.
Unless you think rebuilding Babylon with your NAME carved into every third brick is historical preservation.

Nebuchadnezzar's Palace
In 1982, Saddam's workers began reconstructing Babylon's most imposing building, the 600-room palace of King Nebuchadnezzar II. Archaeologists were horrified. Many said that to rebuild on top of ancient artifacts does not preserve history, but disfigures it. The original bricks, which rise two or three feet from the ground, bear ancient inscriptions praising Nebuchadnezzar. Above these, Saddam Hussein's workers laid more than 60-million sand-colored bricks inscribed with the words, "In the era of Saddam Hussein, protector of Iraq, who rebuilt civilization and rebuilt Babylon." The new bricks began to crack after only ten years.

Show us the order from the United States government telling American soldiers to do any such thing. An ******* is an *******. There's a huge difference between some ******* with a spray paint can and a government program of vandalism.
LOL But then again, considering some of Mussolini's monstrosities, maybe you like Saddam's 'vision' of Babylon. :p
