I ****in hate people who don't feel the need to tip!!! Don't they realize most people in the service industry make $2.13 an hour!! What's even better than that is when they don't tip and then complain about a weak drink!!If you can't afford to go out, STAY THE **** HOME!!!!! Sorry, after not working for awhile, I'd forgotten how much this annoys me.

Same vein, other side of the coin...and I am by no means saying you're doing this...

I HATE it when people EXPECT a tip...

If I get good service...I will tip well...20ish%...but my tip IS reflective on the service I get...

I agree. It's a little different at a bar. Yeah, I do expect a tip at the bar. I used to wait tables to, and that's a different animal. Tips should coorelate to service. Evryone gets good service the first time from me. After that, it all depends.

As a former and possibly future waiter, this is a matter dear to my heart. I used to get really, really mad about that kind of stuff, too. But then I just realized I got enough good tips to make up for the bad ones. It really does basically average out to 15% over the long run, unless you're really good, like me :D One beef I have is with the required 15% gratuity that is charged when you walk in with a certain number of people or something. I mean, hell, then what's the point of a tip? Its a threat to hang over the waiter's head, "if I don't get good service....." but when its automatic, there's no point to it at all.

I generally tip well, 20% or so. But back when I worked at Lowe's and had no money, it really pissed me off to hear my bud's who were waiters, talking about making 200bux in a night on tips, when I could barely make that in a week! I say screw that "I make 2bux an hour" crap... do waiters claim their tips on their income taxes? I bet not.. oh, except the diff from minimum wage to their base hourly wages.

just my thoughts... like I said, I do tip well, generally regardless of service.

Yeah, but at Lowes you make the same no matter how hard you work. A waiter who makes $200 a night has got to really be bustin his ass. Besides, you have the option of waiting tables too.

Um, just to clarify some things. The government is not completely stupid all of the time. They know that waiters get tips. Both of the places I've worked at as a waiter make you report your tips at the end of the night, and it is calculated onto your tax forms as income. And man, I don't mean to belittle your job at Lowe's, but of all the jobs I've ever held, waiting was by far the hardest. I don't think people realize how much truly goes into waiting. I used to wait table for 8 hours a day, 6 days a week for a stretch. Literally, I woke up, went to work, ate lunch, played starcraft, went back to work, came home and went to sleep. It takes a lot out of you, man. I'm telling you right now, I would never, ever consider waiting again if I were to just receive minimum wage for that pain in the ass. Oh, and trust me, when that one a-hole customer walks in complaining about how his coke is too flat and he didn't get as many shrimp as was in the picture for the dish, how his tea cup has a chip, you would GLADLY trade in half your tip for the night just to not deal with the S.O.B.

AMEN> Actually, it would take something drastic to get me to wait tables again at all. Talk about people that don't get it, the other night I overheard a manager listen to a customer complain. The manager told the man that the waitress was trying hard but that it was her first time on a big top and the guy says "Well its not really that big a table, there's only twelve of us and we're even all on seperate checks." What an *******.

Yep, I'm on the side of the waiters here. Never done it myself, but my wife has, and it stinks. Even more so when you work at a restaurant where the customers are normally cheapskates anyway. That was the case at the chinese restaurant she used to work at. I've also seen the same kind of crappy treatment of 'servers' (gotta be PC here, this IS Fight Club - LOL!) that Jwreck and others have described. So even though I'm usually broke, when I do go out to eat at a real restaurant, I try to cut the waiter/waitress some slack & tip pretty well too:)

Anyone know when tipped employees minimum wage was last raised? I was just thinking that I waited tables in 93, and it was $2.13 then too, but standard min. wage had just been raised to $4.25. I think standard is now at almost $6 but tipped is still $2.13. What up wit dat? I have to be honest and say don't feel too badly for me receiving crappy treatment from customers. As a bartender, most people are really cool to you and I can deny service and eject the prick from the club if he's not. So I have it MUCH better than the average waiter.

Yeah, you are lucky in that regard J... The last I heard it was still $2.13 an hour, which is disgraceful to me. You can't count on $200 a night in tips to be sure. I think my wife averaged about $20 to $30 a day in tips:(

No doubt somebody will 'enlighten' us if we're wrong here though, LMAO!

Different states, man. No such thing as "tipped minny" in Cali. Which proves Pb's statement that all California millionaires are lazy, and we just smoke grass and be communists.

You should. Strictly for the weather. And the babes. And the pay. And the grass. And the 3rd catalytic converter!

Man. I hafta take serious offense to this. you wanna meet some stuck up materialistic bitches you get your ass over to New York City. California may have some insensitive bitches, but they sure as hell don't have blondes in bikinis in Georgia. (Although - I could eat a peach for hours)

With all the lakes & rivers around Atlanta, not to mention one of the BEST waterslide parks anywhere, you'd be blown away how many nearly naked Blondes, (& redheads, brunettes, blacks, hispanics, asians, etc...) that you can see around here when the weather gets warm:D

As for California girls, I speak from first hand experience of 23 years dealing with Norcal women.
