AB1190, a bill by California Assemblyman Joe Nation (D-San Rafael),
will ban the hunting of mourning doves and white-winged doves. More
than two million of these gentle and inoffensive birds are killed for
sport each year in California alone.

Although 11 states have banned dove hunting, it is still legal in
California. Doves are lured to fields planted with safflower and
sunflowers. Hunters gather each September, November, and December to
shoot off round after round at the unsuspecting doves. Such
indiscriminate shooting can leave fields filled with dead and dying doves.

Your state legislators need to hear from you NOW that you oppose this
cruel target shooting of millions of doves, and that you want them to
support AB1190. Please login to The Fund for Animals' Personal Action
Center, where you can choose this action for California and then
print, fax, or email your state legislators:

Or go directly to the alert (if you do not first login, you will not
have the option of printing and mailing your letters):

Thank you!

Ummm... I dunno.

How about just regulate it like deer. Put a limit on how many can be taken, and require them to tag them and take them with them. Get the game wardens involved. I have to admit that if the hunters are just shooting tons of doves and just leaving them, not eating them or anything, that's kind of messed up. I eat everything I kill.

we HAVE to take dove at the airport.. ever seen what one of those things can do to an aircraft?

and like Pony said... yum

stop it? no.. then they will overpopulate and become like piegons... oh wait, piegons ARE dove (rock dove to be exact).

regulate it? yes. but don't they already do that?

I've "hunted" dove in California, both mourning dove and white dove. It turns out they really don't taste all that great, after all. I don't know why people still associate the white dove with peace, though. The symbol might as well be a mud tire for all the relevance it has.
