View Full Version : Civ3
JoeyNormal 12-04-2001, 05:33 PM Anyone elso got it?
In my opinion, it's a good update, but not really great. To many little odditties, and the tech tree seemed to slow - I didn't get to the modern age before my mandatory retirement year!
Scott 12-05-2001, 02:23 AM dude..you gotta spend more on science..and build more librarys :)
i'm a fan though...
JoeyNormal 12-05-2001, 05:52 PM LOL, I had a library in pretty much every city, and universities, and...
But I only spent 30-40% on science, as it was all I could afford...0 on luxuries though.
ChaoticThoughts 12-05-2001, 10:01 PM I love civ2, when I am able to burn civ3, I hope I like it as much.
PatTheAnarChrist 12-21-2001, 01:47 AM The computer cheats!!!
Why is it that cavalry can defeat my fortified mechanized infantry, and yet my Panzers (yes, I am Ze Germans) don't even dent the ****ers?!!!

LMAO! Sounds like cheating to me alright... Poland sure wasn't that lucky in the EXACT same situation when Hitler invaded them with Panzers.
JoeyNormal 12-24-2001, 02:52 AM The computer's not actually cheating. If you go to any Civ3 site, you'll hear debates about this problem. The thing is they've changed the combat system since Civ2, and removed the, uh, firepower value. This was what gave modern, and just less ancient units the huge advantages they deserved. Now, a lucky bowman can beat an unlucky tank...
Shadowhawk 12-24-2001, 03:13 AM Well, I think I'll just stick to Civ CTP until they get that fixed then...
Granted Afghanis were able to take out Soviet tanks with infantry, but they had RPGs & automatic weapons at least.
JoeyNormal 12-24-2001, 03:31 AM Call to Power? I played the second, and understood why Meier told them where to stick thje "Civilization" they wanted...
Shadowhawk 12-24-2001, 03:42 AM LOL! Yeah I remember reading the reviews of CTP 2 and not being too happy with a few of the reported change myself. I kind of like CTP 1 myself, but it's the only one I've ever played, so I have precious little to benchmark it against. I just remember my old roommates playing Civ 1 and thinking it looked interesting:) So, I bought CTP 1 when it came out...
Lloyd 12-24-2001, 05:23 AM I personally am a fan of the new 'version'. I like the cultural expansion bit, and have used it many times to take over neighboring cities. Only problem is that it takes FOREVER. But you get a lot more cities without having to focus on a war machine.
One of my friends was having the same problem as sone of you guys, he had modern infantry and the enemy was taking them out with spearmen and bowmen regularly. He eventually gave up since nothing he could do would stop the flow of prehistoric carnage. Never happened to me though!
Still a fun game. I'd give it a thumb up.
Lloyd
PatTheAnarChrist 12-24-2001, 03:10 PM Grr, until they fix that problem, the only digit I'll give it is my middle one...
CTP is a different game than Civ. While Civ focuses on building individual cities, CTP concentrates more on the empire aspects. That's why in CTP you have public works projects rather than city improvements.

Shadowhawk 12-24-2001, 09:11 PM Maybe I'll pick up Civ 2 in the bargain bin then and see how it compares:)
As said, I personally liked CTP 1 though.
JoeyNormal 12-25-2001, 03:55 AM Do so, or find a warez version, it's tiny without videos.
