View Full Version : Tremec
Wedge 11-19-2001, 11:53 PM I hope this is not too techy for this site, but I know you guys love stangs so.. here we go..
I have noticed my bank account grow vastly in the last couple months, and need something to spend it on.. I have a 95 Gt auto that has been wrecked, but is currently working on getting it fixed.. in the mean time, I want more out of it, then the crappy aode that began to hate as it struggled to make shifts before the minivan said hello to the side of my car..
my question is, anybody here have a tremec? I am about to do a swap out a of sn95 with an auto to a tremec, and I don't feel like doing it twice.. so anyways, any little tips?? thanks.. hope this isn't too techy.. I just want a 5-speed mustang :)

I've got a Tremec and I love it, first thing I noticed was how much better the shift quality was over the T-5. The only thing that I couldn't do at home was moving the crossmember forward. For some reason Tremecs have the mounting bolts for the crossmember about 2 inches forward from the factory location. All you need to do is grind off the spot welds and slide it forward and then have it welded back in place.
If you are going to get a Tremec I recommend you get a steel bellhousing too. Might as well do it right while everythings apart.
Fordman50 11-20-2001, 01:51 PM I have an SN95 with an AODE too. I used to think I wanted a tremmic until I test drove a car just like mine with one. What PITA! Shifter gets old and clutches wear out all the time and there are slow too. I thought that 5 speed woulb be faster in a stang since they use less HP but no. Your motor looses all is momentum between shifts AND off the line its very hard to consistantly get traction too. I drove stick for 17 years dude, I dont think Im goin back.
I agree that the stock AODE is doggy BUT get some 410s, a Transgo shift kit and even a 2800 stall if you dare and you wont get the grin off your face! I smoke 5 speed guys all the time, I love when they pull up on me a little at the top of 1st, then go to grab a gear and WHAM I dust them off! :D PLUS with the trango, you can manually shift. Thats what I do most of the time. Its the best of both worlds. No clutch, no loss momentum, just fun controled power shift on demand! I love to barkem :D:D
Wedge 11-20-2001, 01:55 PM what have you done to your car.. and what's your times.. :)
I have 3.55s right now, I use to drive it everyday, but it will soon be my weekend car, so I thinking 4.10s w/ whatever tranny I get
Well, I have a tremec 3650 in my GT...I can't compare it to an AODE GT or even a different manual tranny. This is my first car with stick...
I cannot envision not having this car in stick...it just makes it so much more fun ;-)

That's cause you couldn't drive.. ;) If you know how to shift a stick you lose no momentum at all between shifts. Although I went through 2 T-5's that way.
