Manu 11-14-2001, 11:45 AM Don't bother applying to business schools without getting 2-5 years of 'real world' full time experience in a related field. Your chances of getting into a top tier school are extremely low without the work experience. Foul Temptress 11-14-2001, 11:49 AM I am going to get my MBA at the school I am graduating for. I wont have a problem getting in. I have already talked to the Dean. And Seriously If I sit out, I wont go Back! I am a grad school drop out. I took two classes while working full time and found I didn't have the time. The content of the course work was BS. This was at University of Connecticut. An MBA or Masters degree is a nice thing to have though. If you decide on accounting as a major, an MBA and CPA is a combo that will get you a job at large public accounting firms nationwide. On the other hand, a friend of mine has a Masters in Art History and Archaeology from Columbia University in NYC and he works at a boatyard repairing and painting boats. Probably not the best use of the cash for tuition or the mental capacity of the dude. http://www.columbia.edu/cu/arthistory/ Allegra 11-14-2001, 05:27 PM I'm looking into graduate school myself, although I won't be working towards an MBA. My dilemma is that I'm hesitant to spend so much money (again) to get such a specialized degree. I've been trying to find entry level positions in my field (student services in higher education) so that I can test it out and see if that's what I really want to do...but I haven't been successful. Good luck to you. Have you already taken the GRE? If you have, what level of math is on it? Shadowhawk 11-16-2001, 08:44 PM My opinion is the more education a person has, GENERALLY the better off they are in life overall. However, if you want to go after an MBA as mentioned, definately go after a specialized one. Plain jane MBAs are sadly a dime a dozen... One guy I went to church with busted his butt to get an MBA at night school while working to support his family. After getting it, he couldn't get a better job anywhere and is still a manager for a miniture golf place in the bay area (last I heard). Snouter had the right idea, do some research and find out what types are in demand and from who. That should help you decide exactly what to go after and even if it's worth your time to you. My advice to anyone studying anything is to have a clear idea of what type of work they wish to pursue after completing their education. jello 11-25-2001, 03:09 PM well to me grad school is very important to have a good career. Taking for the example of teachers in my state is now required to have a master degree with in 3 or 4 years of getting their ba. This is even counts for teachers who teach k level childeren. But for me i know i will obtain my masters. which is insane for the people who know because i will gradurate college with 5 ba in different fields. also they think it crazy because i love school. Esjay 12-01-2001, 08:26 AM Get all the education you can while you have the time and means to get it. Assuming you will have a working career of 40 to 45 years, what`s another couple of years in school? |
