Yeah, Northern tools isn't bad... Better quality options than Harbor Freight to be sure.:)

HOWEVER... http://www.snapon.com
You get what you pay for:D YEah, I admit it, I'm a tool snob:p

The best part about Snap-On is that you get to pay 60% more. Most of my tools are either snap-on, mac, or craftsman, but really anything with a lifetime warranty will do.

Yeah, but you get that COOL Snap-On logo on the handle:D Snap-On is great if you're doing it for a living though, because all the tools seem to fit a hair better and are a little more comfortable to work with as well. That said however, I'd tend to agree with you about other tool brands.

I have a decent amount of Craftsman stuff in my box I never bothered to upgrade when I started turning wrenches for a living. If I just did my own maintenance or was a hobbyist, I wouldn't spend the extra money on Snap-On or Mac. Craftsman or Husky work fine in that situation:D

All lifetime warranties are NOT created equal though... K(rap)-Mart's 'bench top' tools carry a lifetime warranty, but they can do it cause their tools are so piss poor they can afford to replace them a few times before you get fed up and go buy someone else's.

I like good tools too. As a poor youngster I often had crappy tools. Once I got good stuff I almost NEVER get bloody knuckles any more.

Snap on is good esp since they deliver and USED to have good girlie calender and clocks! :D I mostly have Craftsman now. But like I said, Northern has all price points at a good price too.

Harbor Freight generally sells pure garbage. Pittsburg tools rank right up there with K-Mart's 'Benchtop' line:( I know you can get some Ingersol Rand stuff there too and what all, but their prices generally aren't that competitive on the little bit of good stuff they do carry.

Trust me, if you ever used Snap-On, you'd never want to debase yourself with something like Pittsburg or Central Pneumatic:)

Fo' da po' folk, Harbor Frieght works. The only "bad" thing I have purchased there is a tranny jack, it cracked, they replaced it. :)

I've never heard of Snap On, but I don't think going to their website would help keep my spending in check. :)

I think it's the luck of the draw with tools, I purchased a kick ass Dewalt drill... mixing mortar fried the engine! While the Ryobi is still kickin'.

Lowe's had a sale on drills, jigsaws and skillsaws... $19 each. I got one of each. Brand is "Skil" :)

I recently got a Ryobi compound miter saw... it made cutting baseboard a breeze! I have heard complaints about Ryobi, none here tho ;)

Northern has some good products. I got some jackstands from them when they had a shipping free offer.

Lowes has kickass tools! My dad just bought a bunch for the garage at home they kick craftsmen's ass all over the place. Still, nothing can match snap-on or mac.

Something that many people don't notice (or care about), but it makes a difference...

The clicks on a snap-on ratchet are close together, or closer together than a craftsman at least, not sure about other brands.

Sometimes you are in a tight spot with a ratchet and you can't move it enough to get the thing to click so that you can tighten/loosen the bolt. The snap-on is helpful here.
