Right or wrong? Good or bad? Required or optional? People of all faiths, lemme hear you shout out! And please let us know your religious affiliation (or amalgamation ;)) in your first post!

I'm basically an agnostic with paganistic tendencies. I think children should be exposed to various religions. One reason is they should be able to make their own INFORMED opinion. This also helps prevent them from believing ignorant lies about religions such as pagans are satanists, christians are hate mongers, etc. I believe if you force your religion on a child two things can happen. They embrace your religion and will always practice it, or they will utterly despise it. Now this is if you FORCE it on them. Less forceful measures will get less extreme outcomes. Also the more informed they are the less chance they will buy into someones BS without asking a lot of questions.

Wiccan and Eclectic Witch:

If I was to ever have children I would teach them what they want to know...I am prepared for them to embrace another Religion other than mine or if they choose not to have Religion at all its fine :) Its their chioce once they are old enough to make it.

"Right or wrong? Good or bad? Required or optional? "

Yes, Yes, Optional (although I am Roman Catholic.... it's suppose to be required)

Well for you pagan kiddies... does this mean when they are children your going to educate them in several different religions so they have the choice to decide? Or just not teach them anything unless they decide to be religious?

As a Christian, it's my duty to pass it along to my son.

If you are done being patronising.....

If they want to know why I am casting circles and praying to a candle, I will tell them...I wont push it onto them....I also will not expect them to follow my religion.

I will let them decide if they want be religious or not...my partner isnt, but my parents are so they will have some teaching from just being around us.

Come on, lighten up a little people:) DaOgre was undoubtedly just joking, not being deliberately insulting:D

Good answers from both of you though:)

I doubt I will have kids.
But imo, introduce them to it, dont force it on them, or tell them they should believe in this or that. Then when they get older, let them decide if they want to learn about any religion or not.

As for you bozos that want to teach your kid a select religion, and make them go to a church or temple each week: I curse you with the enchantment or rebellion. Your kids will hate you and your religion, and either become atheists or devil worshipers, because I know that would make you proud.

I don't plan on 'forcing' anything onto my kids.

Though I am sure I will celebrate some Hindu holidays with my parents (even though I am not really religious) and chances are my wife will not be hindu (I don't meet lots of hindu women :P).

I'd expect her to be the same way. We could celebrate xmas, easter, even go to church for special holidays, but nothing like church every week or sunday school. Etc.

If my children have questions about other religions I'd be more than happy to help them learn about them, by reading up myself, or letting them know what I know...but I won't be going out of my way to expose themselves deeply to many religions.

Passive Wiccan(I rarely do "spells")/ antidogmatic

I'll just continue to do what I do. If they ask me what I'm doing, I'll explain it to them. If they have a qestion about what I believe, I'll tell them what I believe, but I'm not going to give them any absolutes, because I don't believe in absolutes. They'll make up their own minds. However I will pass on my moral beliefs that are part of my spirituality.

We live our lives and our faith out in front of them. We pray for them when sick, we pray daily for wisdom and they know it, we teach them the word as circumstances arise daily for object lessons, and we go to church couple of times a week or for special meeetings daily.

They have seen God in action and that is what they base their belief in Him on. Pretty simple huh?

So simple that you'll probably be attacked for it . . . LOL!

Did you know that smoking weed as soon as a stroke hits can completely reverse the effects and greatly reduce the long term side effects due to it's almost instantaneous blood vessal dialating effects.. Notice how your eyes get all red after you get stoned??

In response to original question, either YOU teach your children religion/morals, or, others will.

Peers, tv, movies, then the pc-lib schools are some of those others.

The question really is "do I want my kids to be more like me/my geneology/history, or should everyone else be the role models?".

Seems to work well for jewish faith, for buddhists, (hindus I think yes, but ??), probably core christianity and core islam (which doesn't appear to exist in any organized branch I know of).

I'd say The Answer begins to appear in your grand-children and onward. :)
