This won't likely come as a shock to those who are from Louisiana, but did the rest of you know that the Battle of New Orleans was actually fought AFTER the war of 1812 was over? Delays in communication prevented either side from knowing the war had recently ended until after the battle was fought.

It's true, it's true!

Here's another bit less widely known... My ancestral family regiment, the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders was one of the few British units that didn't break and run against "Old Hickory" during that battle;)

One of the few pieces of info I retained from high school history courses. :-)

A real waste of life if you ask me. I also know that WW1 continued to be fought to the very last hour of the armistace.

Probably did just forget it:D As for Baton Rouge and New Orleans being two different worlds, they're both still Louisiana. That was the point I made with Princess:D

Criminal: WW1 was a different situation. This was simply a lack of communication because of the distances involved. WW1 was fought to the last second strictly out of spite and bitterness, which makes it a bigger waste to me:(
