nice little story for ya.

I was having some trouble with my left arm and shoulder. It started maybe a week ago. Then one day my arm just felt like it was going to go numb, but it never did. You know how it feels when it starts to go numb, it gets kinda warm, like right before it starts to tingle. Well, I watch people die of heart attacks all the time at the airport, and saw one a few weeks ago.. So I am all worried thinking I might be having an attack at 26! I haven't been to a doc since I was in HS and that was just to get my MMR shots to go to college. I ask around and find out who is on our PPO plan and make an appt for the next morning.

I am still thinking the worst when I go to the doc that day. I am thinking mild attack, clogged arteries, stroke (seen it all!) The doc does all his little nerve tests and ask me all the questions.. I have no history of anything on my side of the family. He then asks the one question that never crosses my mind "are you on the computer alot?" I am like "yeah, in fact, I have been on alot lately" (been working on a new program at work for the last 3 weeks, about 6hrs a day..keep in mind, I am not a programer, just doing this on the side :)) He then diagnosis me with a mild case of carpal tunnel syndrome! Is that crazy or what! I can't believe I never thought about that! He prescribed me some anti inflammatories that have been helping alot! Great thing about it all, I have copay on my PPO insurance so the visit was 10 bux and the medicine was 10 bux.

Guess what I am trying to say. We are all on the computer alot, never rule out carpal tunnel syndrome. I never even thought about it. I was all worried too. :)

(hope I spelled CTS right :D)

sorry to hear about dude, but atleast you know what it is.. a couple friends of mine who are programers have mild cases of CTS.. I work at a computer all day.. come home and do more design.. some days my rist begin to hurt, but I just take it easy for a day or two, and it goes away.. I am only 21 and didn't use the computer much before I was 19.. so I am afraid too..

after seeing my dad live with arthrits in his hands being a mechanic for 30+ years, I know that work takes a toll on your body..

Good to know it isn't anything more serious though!

These are the usual symptoms alledgely...

-numbness and tingling in the hands, especially when these symptoms occur at night and after use of the hands

-decreased feeling in your thumb, index, and long finger

-the presence in your hand of an electric-like shock or tingling (like hitting your "funny bone") when your doctor taps over the course of the median nerve at the wrist

-the reproduction of your symptoms by holding your wrists in a bent down position for one minute

It sounds like your arm problem may be posture and computer related but not traditional carpal tunnel since that refers to the nerve tubing in the wrist palm area. On occasion, I have slept in a weird position or whatever and awakened with one of my arms alseep and tingly or completely limp. It is pretty scarey and I have to massage it to get the blood flowing again.

That is why I am thinking a solution may be to increase the upper body resistance training and aerobic exercise, get on a stricter diet of fruits, veggies, and water, and maybe get some massages. I went and got a back massage at an oriental manicure place 2 weeks ago that was pretty good. It was a legit business, they have a massage chair right out in the middle of the nail salon area. ;)
