View Full Version : Impulsiveness vs Procrastination
Shadowhawk 11-04-2001, 05:19 AM Got into an interesting, but short discussion on this with Manu and we thought it might make a good thread...
What's worse in your opinion? Being too impulsive and acting w/o thinking about what you're doing, or always being afraid that you're going to make the wrong decision and never acting... Both sides can have some serious drawbacks depending upon how severe the problem is. Assuming all other things being equal though, which do you think is worse?
Personally, I'd have to go with procrastination... Often times ANY decision is better than none at all and you might be able to correct a slightly off target decision with less difficulty than if you hadn't acted at all.
Procrastination is a lot like mastrubation...at first tis fun, but in the end you're just ****ing yourself. :-)
I must say I am an eternal procrasinator...BUT I hate indecision. I procrasinate because I am lazy... :-)
But I think procrasintation is different than worrying about making a wrong decision...I am RARELY wishy washy after some thoguht, I will jump one way or the next, no sense in constantly debating stuff...
jrod95gt 12-19-2001, 04:43 AM i'm gonna agree with Manu, i procrastinate cause i'm a lazy sack. i can decide on stuff. hell, i want to do stuff, but i just put it off. important stuff, like buying groceries, applying for financial aid, studying..... it just gets thrown to the back behind all the damn time i spend reading other peoples thoughts on the internet. pretty much i get motivated to do very few things. mtn biking, driving my car, and doing this.
Wedge 12-19-2001, 11:33 AM actually I am kind of a mix, I am more of a procrastinator.. but there is always one thing that I am working towards.. wheither it's school, money, car whatever.. once I get it, it's on to the next.. so I guess I am a procrastinator, b/c all the other things wait.. and they are usually more important.. but atleast I am going after one thing.. and the things that have deadlines usually wait till the day before, unless it becomes my "one thing"
and yes I too spend too much of my time on the net reading other people opinion.. :)
little_darkling 12-19-2001, 05:15 PM i'm up there with you guys. procrastination is definitely the worse of the two. with me, when i procrastinate i let things build up, that is, things to need to have a decision made, so at first i'll have one decision to make, but eh it doens't need to be made right away so i wait. *humhumhum* sooner than i realize i have like six major decisions to make with less time to think about them than i would have had if i made that first decision right away. then THAT'S when the impulsiveness comes in- when there's too much to do at once, ANYthing will do.
92Notch 12-20-2001, 12:35 PM I'm both :) it makes for alot of fun :)

jwreck 12-22-2001, 06:19 AM Funny, I was just realizing that I've been procrastinating and have to do all my Christmas shopping tomorrow. That's gonna make for a lot of impulse buying.;)

Best just to be too broke to do any shopping like me... It's not like you're going to have much to choose from at this point anyway.
jwreck 12-24-2001, 01:33 AM There were lots of tinkertoys on the shelf.
Shadowhawk 12-24-2001, 01:45 AM Tinkertoys are cool! Not as cool as Legos, but... I haven't seen any of those in God knows how long though. I didn't think they were still being made honestly. Then again, I recently saw Lincoln Logs on the store shelf as well. Looks like all the classics are making a come back:D
jwreck 12-24-2001, 02:32 AM They had two boxes of Lincoln Logs and about three shopping carts of tinkertoys.

This coming from the guy who trashed the Merry Christmas thread fer crying out loud AND helped Brian trash my thread about needing relationship help/advice???
At least this thread has a natural progression from procrastination (which nobody posted about in over a month!), to putting off holiday shopping, to what was actually bought. Hence a legit conversation was taking place:p
Corporate Avenger 12-26-2001, 06:14 AM I might have to check those things out sometime...
Shadowhawk 12-26-2001, 06:41 AM Better hop to it if you hope to keep up:D
Procrastinating will cost you dearly in the Post Whore wars:D
