Nope, the last girlfriend I had was nearly 4 years ago. :eek: I was with her 2 1/2 years and we still talk. She's getting married this spring. A combination of me being picky and the only girls that like me are 17 or 18 has lead to me being single for almost 4 years. I didn't realize you'd been up here twice.... The only one I knew of was the pirate party. I am currently sick, and the dr. told me last week that I have either always had or recently developed asthma and even though I don't smoke a lot, the little I do smoke combined with the asthma has left me very volnerable to infection, and that's why I've been sick so much. So I am now officially a non smoker going on 10 days....

Career wise I would like to get my film editing career in a nice, comfortable place, which means being grossly overpaid and having nice hours. I'd love the band thing to take off and go somewhere too. But those are goals that are really just hopes I guess. I haven't set them as goals to the point where if I don't reach them I'll be dissapointed in myself. The goals that are really important to me are just my continuation of a search for life meaning and having healthy relastionships with my family and friends. And other hippy/new-age-y stuff.

*edit* I forgot a couple. I have goals to do quite a bit of traveling, so far I've only seen the U.S., Mexico, and Palau. I want to build a darkroom in my house/apt when I find a house/apt suitable to do so.

Hmm, probably still here in L.A., in a fairly similar place, just with a better and more fulfilling job. Hopefully still rocking out (literally and theoretically). It'd be nice to have a girl by my side, but at this rate that's not too likely. :)


3) When you were younger did you ever envision yourself in the place in your life that you are now?
No. I think I was a bit naive when I was younger, I always thought it'd be pretty easy to find a job/career that was artistically and emotionally fulfillling. I never considered I'd be underpaid and hate my job and find it hard to find something better because I have to pay the rent in 2 weeks. I also thought I'd never start getting fat.


4) Idea of a perfect date?
A perfect date is more about chemistry than activity. If you have that connection with someone that is so rare, it doesn't really matter what you're doing with them. If you do want to know activities, I enjoy doing stuff on dates that I wouldn't necessarily do on my own. When I lived in santa cruz, me and my ex drove up the coast to this place that has hundreds of seals laying around. It wasn't anything special, but it was fun and something I'd never do on my own.


5) Perfect woman?

6) How many times have you had to stop and re-evaluate where you are in your life and reset your priorities?
A few times, maybe? Deciding where I was going to college and why and what degree... In college I switched everything around when I decided I should move to LA. I think I might be in the middle/verge of one of those moments now, I'm not sure. I've always been open to change in my attitude, beliefs, insecurities, methods, etc since I was about 14 or 15, so my life has always been in a semi state of flux, if that makes any sense.


7) Addendum to #6, were you happy with the changes you made?
I think so, I don't really have any regrets. I can't imagine living anywhere else right now, or doing anything else really. I'd probably do a few things a little differently if I did it all again, but nothing huge.


8) If you could change one thing in this world what would it be and why?
Yikes. My initial answer was to give everyone the gift of hindsight before hand, but that sort of takes away the experience of learning from mistakes, which is a valuable lesson. I suppose I'd change the downward spiral the world's environment and eco-system is in. It's a little hard for me to answer that because I'm a firm believer in the balance of "good and evil" and you can't say something like "I'd make world peace" because that eliminates half of life.....


9) What is your idea of utopia?
Based on my last answer, I don't know that it exists. There is always an element of evil, if there wasn't, it wouldn't be reality.


10) Is there such a thing as freedom?
Philosophically, yes. Realistically, no. There are always things to tie us down, which isn't always a bad thing. For example, I am tied down by my family and friends, but I don't mind that because I love them. I want to be here for them. I don't mind the lack of freedom having them in my life causes. There's also certain freedoms that one must give up in order to interact and survive as a society.


11) Is personal freedom a reality, a goal that can be reached?
I think my answer is the same as for #10


12) If there was ever a book written about you, what would you hope to convey?
That although I can be as ignorant and stupid as the next guy, I'm open to having that pointed out to me and changed.


13) If you could ever make the world learn ONE thing, what would you hope to teach them?
Ummmmmmm.......


14) Which do you prefer: a dog or a cat, and why?
Definately dogs. When I have the space for it, I'd like to have a weimerheiner and/or a boxer. Small dogs are stupid. Cats aren't fun. I love to wrestle and play with big friendly dogs and the effection they show is fantastic.


15) What is your personal philosophy on life?
In a nutshell: Do the best I can. I often fall short of that mark, but that's inevitable, so I try to just learn a lesson and do better the next time.


16) Or what is the purpose of life?
When I was 14 or something I came up with a theory that the purpose of life is to find the purpose of life. That's a little simplistic, but there's some truth to it. There's great mysteries that we will never learn about life and the universe and to just keep trying to learn and live the best you can.... that's all we can do and it gives us purpose.


17) Do you ever see space travel as a possiblity?
I really don't know. I assume you mean space travel that will allow us to travel great distances, such as "warp speed" in star trek. I sort of doubt it, but at the same time, wouldn't be surprised if we ever accomplished it. I think being able to explore the universe and answer some of the questions we have about it would just lead to bigger and more complex questions.


18) If you could go back in time and meet someone who would it be and why?
Stanley Kubrick because I find his filmmaking absolutely incredible. I would love to pick at his mind, and try to understand how and why he did what he did with his movies.


19) If you could go back and change one thing in your past what would it be and why?
I'd probably go back and better appreciate what I had and my father while I was growing up. I know there were times when I really didn't respect him and took him for granted and it really hurt him.


20) What is the secret to happiness?
Hope and an open mind.


21) Are we personally responsible for our own happiness?
Yes. Other people can effect positively or negatively our own happiness, but it is our own responsibility, for sure.


22) If you had a friend who told you he was suicidal how would you try to help him?
I have had this situation..... I just talked, really. I didn't try to talk him out of anything, I just told him about my life, things I've felt and experienced, and how I feel now. I never really knew what I said that touched him, but he said something did......


23) If you found out that God is real would it change anything for you?
Yes, it would throw a wrench in everything.... I can't really say how it would change everything, it would depend on the nature of the god that I found out existed.

If any of the religious books (Bible, Torah, etc) are accurate.


25) Are you happy with yourself and your life at this moment?
For the most part. I am in the middle of a sort of hard time in my life, although it's getting better. I'm not unhappy with myself though. :)

1. I would probably get mad if I was trying to sleep, yes. having a finger in the bum kind of prevents sleep and I get cranky when I'm trying to sleep and I can't. [too much information]I've had a finger in the bum while getting head though, it aint bad.[/too much information]

Ever since I started to really understand music and appreciate it (instead of just following the trend of what was on the radio) music has been a big part of my life. That was when I was 12 or 13 maybe? I started really wishing I knew how to play an instrument when I was 14 or 15 and then some friends asked me to try out singing for their band in college when I was 20 I think. I can't really say if there was one specific time I made that decision, I've always loved music and wanted to be involved.

Hmm, I don't think there's one band or artist that I could call my greatest musical influence, everyone that I've liked a lot in the last 10 years has influenced me more than a little bit. Obviously punk bands are at the top of the list, some of the obvious ones would be minor threat, bad religion, misfits, fugazi, descendents and lots more. As I matured and learned more about music and where those bands got their influences, that was always interesting.


3) Do you think you'll ever reach a point in your life when you will say, "Ive got it going on?"
So are you saying I don't "got it going on" now? Sheesh! Seriously though, yes and no. I think I have a lot of things going for me, but at the same time I don't think that's anything special or I should get special treatment for it or anything. I'm pretty modest about most things.


4) What in life makes you stop and say, "Wow. Thats amazing."?

Whenever I think about the (size of) the universe and the complexities of life, humans, and really any organism, that makes me think "that's amazing." In a similar vein, emotions and the way they can be manipulated through art is really incredible to me too. Blatant racism such as the KKK or nazis, etc always amaze me, although I've had my moments of being ignorant as well, so in a way it's sort of understanable. But shocking at the same time. Every once in a while I amaze myself too. :)


5) Who has had the most impact on you in your life?
This is pretty similar to question number 2. Everyone in my life has influenced me in their own way. But obviously my parents have had a huge influence on me, my father more than my mother. He's made a lot of really posative changes in his life, emotionally, spiritually, and attitudinally (I made up a new word!), which has helped me do the same in a lot of respects. My ex girlfriend really had a large influence in my life too, she was (is) a very smart girl and showed me a lot of perspectives in life that I had never seen before.


6) Finish this statement: My life will be complete when....
I die. I don't really have any specific actions or goals that I feel will complete my life. There's things I'd like to do before I die, but I wouldn't feel incomplete without doing them. I don't believe in fate, and as of right now, I don't believe in an afterlife (with the same conscious mind anyway), so it seems a bit silly for me to say something like "my life will be complete when..."

Physically would have to be falling off a second story porch onto concrete and breaking my skull from ear to ear. I don't really remember it, but I had to wear a helmet for a year, so it had to hurt. Emotionally..... probably having my ex-step mom treat me like absolute crap and my dad just sitting there letting her.

Of course I have always been comfortable with it. Even during my christian era, I never had a problem with gay people, and I believed they should have the same partnering/coupling rights as everyone else. My sister's gf makes her very happy, they're great for each other, why should I feel any different than if she had a penis? When I first heard about it, I was a little surprised, but only because I didn't know her gf all that well.

2. not really, no. No one needs or wants to see me naked. Caridad might tell you differently, but she's lying. At my college, at the first rain of the year a lot of people would go running through the quad naked. I don't think they do that anymore though (and I never did).
3. I really have no opinion of them on guys, but on girls, I love nipple piercings. I like barbells much better than rings.

If I were to lose one, it'd be music, hands down. I don't have any musical ability anyway, I just sing for a punk rock band. I love sex too much.

Don't really have any phobias, I'm pretty good at mentally talking myself through fear. Certainly not any of the common ones such as heights, snakes, bugs, small spaces, etc. If you asked what my biggest fear is, it's probably being lonely.

That's a tough one to answer, I am extremely skeptical of charities, so I'd have to really investigate a charitable organization before I gave them money and I don't have any extra money, so I haven't done any research. There's a lot of things that need money though.... aids, diabetes, education, homeless, get jed cool stuff, all the standards. I don't know what I'd chose.

I'll take the stones over the beatles 8 days a week (oh the irony). So, no, I don't really have one, I'm afraid I think they're terribly over-rated.

1. Op Ivy did indeed do sound system. Probably common knowledge, but the guitarist and bassist from Op Ivy went on to start Rancid.
2. My favorite fugazi song is definately waiting room. That is a near perfect song. Others at the top of the list are bad mouth, margin walker, public witness program, smallpox champion, long division, KYEO, and there's more. Ian McKaye has been involved with two of the most influencial bands in history for punk and indie - minor threat and fugazi respectively. Gotta respect the guy.
3. Catch-22 has a couple ok songs, I'm not big on ska though. Some ska is ok, but catch-22 is just too happy.
4. Cats Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. is way up there.

1. Sunrise, it's much more interesting, colorful and peaceful

Hardly. I'm actually a very modest person, probably more than I should be. It's hard for me to tell how an audience feels about our performance unless they are actively involved, moshing, singing along, or at least bobbing their head. Once stuff like that happens, there's deffinately a rush that goes along with it, and even a sense of power, but I wouldn't say that I hold anyone in my hand or anything. Music (especially punk) has always been about community and respect for people in the scene for me, so it's almost like they're as important as I/we are. Of course they are as important, without fans, we have nothing.


Do you have film ambitions beyond editing?
Not specific ones. I love the whole process, so I'm not going to say I'd turn down opportunities to do more. I've always wanted to do something with bands, maybe touring with a band and doing a video tour diary thing with performances and stuff... maybe I'll do it with my own band. Editing is my favorite part, and the part I'm best at, but I like filmmaking as a whole.


Who squeezed the orange juice?
Jonas. He works here at the office. He made me (and eveyrone else in the office that wanted any) an omlette, hashbrowns, and sausages. Stuff like that can really brighten up a morning.

Monarch butterflys in santa cruz. They all congregate there once a year, it's amazing. Thousands and thousands of them.

Sunrise in tahoe in winter. Cleanest air I've ever seen, miles from any big city so you can see stars, and the colors on the snow covered mountains is gorgeous.

punk rock. When I lived in college dorms, there was another guy named Jed on the same hall. People called me punk rock jed to diferentiate.

That's hard to say. Titanic is pretty high up there. What a embarrasingly bad use of film. Ed Wood movies are generally thought of as the worst movies ever made, but because of their lack of continuity, use of bad actors, etc, they have a certain charm that make them fun to watch, so I wouldn't say they qualify. Anything dishonest or self-indulgent is pretty bad in my opinion. Sorry for lack of a concrete answer on that.


What is one of your favorite movies that you normally wouldn't admit to liking?

Favorite director? Why?
Stanley Kubrick, hands down. Every single one of his films is an example of amazing, deliberate filmmaking. He's one of the few directors that can make artsy movies that are commercially viable. You can study even the simplest detail in a Kubrick film and see his intent and dilberation. For example I included the contents of the walk in pantry that Jack is locked in in "The Shining" to support my thesis for the movie. I would say his views on the human condition pretty well parallel my own as well.

Yes, my mother lived in Boulder for about a couple of years. I was living with my father in california at the time, but I think I spent 2 months or so out there, as well as a few other trips.

Yes, but I also believe in my right to eat them. I don't think animals should be used for testing, especially for cosmetics and household items, and I think most American Meat companies mistreat their animals to an extent that is far beyond acceptable.

Yes, but the bulk of them are written by Joe. He's better with words and most of his lyrics are better than mine, so we use 'em. We work together as well, we've co-written a couple songs.

With so many sub-genres, it's really impossible since you have everything from whiney emo bands singing about their broken hearts to white power bands singing about the superiority of the white race. And like all movements/cultures that begin underground and are socially subversive, when it becomes mainstream and widely accepted, it becomes extremely watered down and most ethos are left behind and traded in for fashion. (How's that for a run on sentence!) For me, punk music taught me a lot about loyalty, honesty, questioning of the status quo, and more. I still feel those ideals and qualities in the music, but it's different for everyone.

The shows that we really rock, where we walk away saying "damn, that was an awesome show" are the ones where the audience really responds. If I understand your question correctly, no, not really. However, there is a sort of sub-conscious thing going on where I notice/remember what audiences like and I act accordingly. Basically it's just what comes with experience.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you asking if we have a distinct sound? If so, I think we're just now getting it after almost two years. It's taken a while for us to really come together, but we're very happy with how we sound and what we're doing.

I don't think anything is written down besides harmonies we figure out, just so we don't forget them. If I had it in front of me I could slowly bang out music on the piano, but I can't read it at a level that I could sit down and play it from reading it. Honestly, I'm not sure if Joe can, I'd bet he can fairly well...


How important is dress and props (if any) in a performance?
Preatty much completely unimportant. We are certainly not a style over substance kind of band. We go out and rock, we don't dress up or use any props. Well, cody puts black **** under his eyes sometimes, but I sufficiently tease him for it.

We've never had a performance like that that I know of. The crowd rocking is the most important part. Without a good crowd, a band is really nothing, so when you get a good reaction, that pretty much defines a good show. Playing hasn't gotten mundane, but we're still an adolescent band. I'm sure it does for some people at some point. Hopefully it never will for us, but only time wil tell.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking.... There are punk bands that are very active in voicing their political/humanistic/philisophical views, that's been a big part of punk since the sex pistols.... But there are bands like propagandhi and to an extent anti flag that in addition to bitching about things, they also give solutions, examine why things are ****ed up and shoudl be changed, etc.

Again, not totally sure what you're asking. I listen to our stuff recorded because I love it and think it rocks. When we're playing, of course we have to pay attention to what we're each doing/playing. And yes, listening to the audience is part of what we do. We can have a good show and ignore them, but as I've said, the best shows are the ones where the connection between the band and audience are strong. It's in our best interest to play off them just as they play off us.

A lot of bands do, yes, some don't. It's pretty much theory, but I think what's going to determine if you do that or not is how you are before hand. If you have integrity before you're big, you probably will after. If your integrity is weak before hand, it will be after as well, it will just be much more noticable. I'd like to think if I ever got big (not gonna happen), I'd still be a similar person. I actually don't really want to be famous, I don't want people looking up to me for being in a band. I don't want to be recognized or stared at. I'm just a person doing what I gotta do.

Not anymore really. Æ is pretty much correct in that they're just classic now. There's a couple things I've heard though: Way back in the day it was a sailor tattoo, and one of them meant that you had traveled 5000 miles on sea, two meant 10,000 miles. I've also heard it's symbolic of happiness and loyalty. I have two of them on my back.

Most of my favorite films are about people who struggle with good and evil inside themselves, so whoever I chose, i think that'd be the subject.
