Most people seem to be of the agreement that Halo is at the top in terms difficulty, or rather, intelligent AI, but...opinions?

Which got me thinking....is it just me, or do games nowadays seem much easier, as opposed to those of yesteryear? I consider Halo to be an exception, but remember the very first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle installment for the NES? Damn that game was tough!

I think it all depends on the difficulty set a the beginning of a game. I know I know its all like "duh" but some gamers ive worked with do set it at easy and finish off early. Personally I'll play a level on "easy" to get the "feel" of the game, then go back on "difficult" to really play it. As far as how much "smarter" any given bot on the game is......................it all depends on the games developer. Another good FPS is Timesplitters2(console game) the AI in it is unprecedented. Fire a round at a bots head, miss and for sures he'll duck, turn in the direction of the shot and fire back. Sounds simple, but these guys will even duck behind crates and barrels and shoot from the cover......difficulty back in the day was simply faster enemys with more life than you. nowadays, theyre just getting smarter:eek:

I always play a game at the 'medium' difficuty first and then go at it and play the harder (hardest) levels after I beat it on the standard/medium.

I never found the point of playing a game on easy...

Halo perhaps has some great AI, so did Halflife, especially for the time.

I hated the AI in the Doom games.

Man, halflife was the first time I saw a game use TEAM AI.

I think it wasnt 'real' AI, but rather good level making and good scripted AI, but regardless, it worked and worked well.

I remember one part where I was blown away. You enter a room, and there are 3 marines on a catwalk higher up. One Marine lays down a cover fire, while the other 2 advance position. Once you're hidden, one of the marines flushes you out with grenades while the others guard both exists.

Its awesome.

Halflife used scripts, and the new one will combines both scripted events and AI.

Right now AI is actualy the part of the game that takes developers the longest to develope (when they actualy develep a new on) Like for, I think it was, Unreal Tournament 2003, they spent the entire time from the release of the first game to the just before releasing it perfecting the AI. Games are only getting harder guys.

Although all they really did in halo to make it harder was give the bad guys more health and pit you against more and toupher oponents earlier on, the AI was good don't get me wrong, but it wasn't anything special.
