So I've applied for admission to my local community college. I went to college after graduation, for all the wrong reasons, ended up screwing around and dropping out. Been thinking about going back ever since my son was born. I need to be able to tell him that I actually "did" something with my life, even if it was 5 years late...my mom went back to school after being out for 20 years and is now an RN. If she can do it, so can I, but hubby isn't being too supportive. I think that he doesn't realize how serious I am about it. It would make me feel like I have accomplished something, even if it is just an associate degree. Kinda pissed about it because I supported him whole-heartedly when he went back to get a certificate that he doesn't even use, but we are still paying for...
Any words of wisdom or ideas??

I think learning about things is great. I don't know if getting a degree or certificate is going to be satisfying in the long run. College is a very social experience. Maybe this is where apprehension comes in on his part. I would say going is a good idea if you are going for a specific skill or trade like a nurse, otherwise, you can learn a lot more by reading and studying on your own and hanging our here. http://discussanything.com/Ubb/wink.gif
I studied for a very difficult accounting test and managed to pass it (Certified Management Accountant). Four parts over a one year time period. It is basically a worthless unfortunately. I would have been better off going to a cooking trade school.

Go back to school, then kick hubby in the nads. I'd be damned before I didn't support my wife in anything she wanted to do to better herself. Hell, when we bought our pizza shop, I didn't want to, but, she wanted it really bad. Now I work with her there several nights a week to help out (puts my work schedule to something like 90 hours/week).

I have been down on myself lately for not going to back to school sooner.. I stayed out for a little over a year out of highschool, then just went part time when I did go.. I want to go back full time within a year, and I am not even going right now.. I was going to a local community tech school, which I found out most classes won't transfer.. so I am kinda in the same boat, I am looking at the long term.. a bachelor's degree.. so I guess I will be starting all over, and I am 21..
glad to know it's not too late

I am 28 and a three time dropout. I'm back again and planning to go to Law School eventually. Its never too late. I think its great for anyone to actually desire knowledge. Although I agree with Snouter. College is a great place to get certificates and crap, but you get more knowledge on your own. I've come to agree that "Education is wasted on the young."
