View Full Version : On line Schooling question
Je$ter 10-17-2001, 10:37 AM OK, I have been seriously thinking of going back to school for Computer Animation or something in that area. Does anyone know of ANY information I can look into for doing like on line classes for this. I really don't have time to be driving my butt all over the place to do this (though if I have to, I will) but I really would like to pursue this....
Any information would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks
Chris

I am not sure about 100% online courses, but check out the extension programs at universities. Oftentimes they offer certain courses online.
www.extension.ucla.edu (http://www.extension.ucla.edu) is UCLAs extension site. I know they have online courses, just not sure if they have them in what ya want.
Also check out The University of Phoenix. (contrary to belief, they are locaed outside fo AZ also.) They have lots of online courses and some degree programs which are 2/3s online and 1/3 in class.

lol. Jester, what is the problem with going to school? Just don't want to? Or do you have major time considerations?

Je$ter 10-17-2001, 03:21 PM I don't really want to do that whole degree thing....just want the knowledge and to build up my portfolio and then try and get a job.
Honestly, I don't know....I hate academics.....there, I said it...I hate having to learn stuff I don't want to....as child like as that may sound....that is the truth....
I don't have the patience or attention span to do that.....ugh.....

You may wanna check out a community college class. You could just take courses, or you could find an AS/AA that fits what you want to do. There is normally very litlte 'bs' in a good program at a Community college.

ChaoticThoughts 10-17-2001, 07:49 PM Along with my normal classes, I take distance ed classes from time to time. Keep in mind you will need the computer programs needed for the class. Or you have to visit computer labs in order to do your work.
And do you hate Computer Animation? If you do like it, you shouldn't have a problem taking classes involving it. Its the other classes I have problems with, ones not related to what I want to learn, but required for my degree. If you are just taking one class, it shouldn't be much of a problem.
Foul Temptress 10-18-2001, 01:24 AM Do check out the University of Phoenix, I know we have a base out of Baton Rouge, not sure if they have your interest though. Worth a shot, if not they may can guide you into the right direction.

Je$ter 10-18-2001, 01:53 AM I'm checking out everything that comes my way...
and actually I have already checked out Phoenix, and they didn't have what I wanted online. I may check out Georgia State, and West Georgia....one is close to were I work (I could go there after work) and the other has a satellite school close to where I live....I may just have to get off my butt and sit in a class

ChaoticThoughts 10-19-2001, 02:53 PM Well, you could either take whatever classes are required, or try to just take the few classes you want to. You may not get a degree or anything, but you would enjoy all of your classes.

what do I type here?
Je$ter 10-20-2001, 11:29 PM Well, I've decided what I'm going to do....after talking to someone in the position (about) that I want to be in....
I'm gonna invest in a new PC (bout time to retire the 266 I think) I'm gonna load up on the software I need and do a combination of self study along with kind of an apprenticeship....
Build up the portfolio and try this time next year to get in the Computer Animation field that I have wanted to do since I was a young lad... http://discussanything.com/Ubb/biggrin.gif http://discussanything.com/Ubb/biggrin.gif http://discussanything.com/Ubb/biggrin.gif
We'll see what happens....
Thanks for all the input....

Wedge 10-24-2001, 10:27 AM I have taken a few computer classes online.. I forget the web address.. and it was threw a local community college.. overall it was worth it.. I like being able to work on classwork or homework whenever I want.. but it takes motivation sometimes..
I think the name was "Georgia Virtual Technical College".. it offered quite a bit.. trying searching for it.. I will try to look for a url
