Since Snouter and some of the other people that haunt this forum seem so knowledgable, I was hopng one of you could help me here.

I take Vitamin C to knock out any bugs I start to come down with. ( times out of ten it works beautifully also. But that leads us to our problem. Twice when I got real sick the last few years, I took too much of the stuff and added symptoms resembling an alergic reaction to the mix. I apparently OD'ed http://discussanything.com/Ubb/frown.gif SO, what is the maximum safe specifically for fighting a cold/flu. One source I heard said about 2 grams a day (2000 mg).

What were your symptoms? I've never heard about anybody ever taking too much vitamin C. The worst thing I know it can do is make your urine burn If you take too much. Linus Pauling would take 50 grams a day for colds and other ailments. The best kind to take Is the buffered I think. Maybe Snouter knows..

Btw, I used to take 10-20 grams a day sometimes, since it's water soluble you just pee out the excess..

Like Corprate Avenger was saying, like most water-soluble vitamins, Vitamin C travels within in the water of the body and excess amounts of Vitamin C are excreted and not stored in the body, but a lot can cause an upset stomach. Fat soluble vitamins such as A, D, E, K have a tendency to be stored in fat cells and are slower to be excreted so there is a danger of toxicity if too much of those are ingested daily.

This is what my Multi-Nutrient which I have taken for years contains in terms of Vitamin C.

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) 700mg
Buffered Vitamin C (calcium, magnessium, molybdenum ascorbates) 800mg
Citrus Bioflavonoids Complex (hesperin, queretin, rutin) 200mg

These nutrients help support joints, tissues, bones, blood vessels, and immune system.

If you feel a cold coming on, ECHINECEA is a great herb to boost the the immune system to quickly kick out the cold before it gets anywhere. I use the type found in health food stores and the herb sections of Wild Oats and Whole Foods stores. It comes in little eye dropper bottles and costs about $10. Dosage for me is 20-30 drops in green tea several times a day for a few days if early symptoms of a cold such as sore throat appear. It is not recommended to use echinecea for more than 2 months with out a 2 week stoppage so the body can rest.

My symptoms were my nose running constantly, and chills primarily. Events today would seem to indicate I wasn't actually ODing on vitamin C after all... I got a case of Pneumonia from my sister-in-law http://discussanything.com/Ubb/frown.gif The 'OD' symptoms fit the same as walking pnuemonia both times it happened.

I've started using the Echinecia as well the last day or so. It definately is helping as well http://discussanything.com/Ubb/smile.gif I know people used to hype Zinc as being a great bug killer as well, but it's never done me any good. How about the rest of you? Just curious...

From what I hear, vitamin C helps prevent catching bugs. It is good to have durring, but mainly it is for prevention. As for ODing on vitamins, I think E and K are the only ones not pissed out.

I just take a muti evey once in a while, even with that, I get 100% of all vitamins or more. I dont think haveing 300% or 400% or more will give you a big advantage.

CT, the issue isn't really percentage. 100% means that pill has 100%, but that doesnt mean your body absorbs 100%. In fact a lot of multivitamins are NOT absorbed. The idea in taking a pill a few times a day allows your body to absorb more of the given vitamin.

Also, 100% is for the recommended daily dosage. But fi you are sick or have a deficiency of a given vitamin, ya may need more.

The RDA Is pitifully low, the US RDA for Vitamin C Is only the dosage to prevent scurvy. Things like B vitamins are rediculously low compared to what people need everyday. I believe the RDA has been intentionally kept too low..

And if they are not punished for these crimes the harm they will do to future generations is much greater than Hitler could ever have done if he were alive.” The IG Farben Cartel was dismantled and split by the Nuremberg Tribunal into the daughter companies Hoechst, Bayer and BASF. With the help of Nelson Rockefeller, their former business partner and US Undersecretary of State after the war, all convicted IG Farben managers were released from prison already in 1952 and reassumed positions in the highest levels of German industry. The prediction of Nuremberg Tribunal prosecutor Taylor soon became true. In post-war Germany the positions of chairmen of Hoechst, Bayer and BASF were held by war-time IG Farben directors and former members of the Nazi party for over a quarter of a century after the second world war. Hoechst, Bayer and BASF lost no time to build up other political leaders to serve their interests in post-war Germany. Between 1959 and 1969 Helmut Kohl worked for the “Verband der Chemischen Industrie”(Association of Chemical Industry), the largest lobby organization of 3 the chemical-pharmaceutical industry. This industry systematically promoted Helmut Kohl’s political career thereby continuing to instrumentalize the German government for their global expansion plans. And their investment paid out. Now, fifty years after the Nuremberg Tribunal split the criminal IG Farben Cartel into Hoechst, Bayer and BASF each of these three daughter companies is 20 times larger than the IG Farben empire ever was.

Today, these IG Farben successors are the largest exporters of pharmaceutical products in the world, maintaining an industrial network over 120 countries of the world. For almost two decades, Helmut Kohl has been heading the German government. During this time the government of Germany became the political spearhead of the global conquest of the pharmaceutical industry and of the world-wide genocide and mass murder committed on their behalf. The criminal role of the pharmaceutical corporations and the German government becomes particularly evident by the effort to suppress one of the greatest advances in medicine, which will lead to the elimination of heart disease. The year 1990 became a turning point in medicine world-wide. In that year Dr. Matthias Rath discovered that heart attacks and strokes are no diseases. Similar to scurvy, they are the direct result of long-term vitamin deficiencies and they are preventable and reversible. It was also discovered that animals don’t get heart attacks because they manufacture their own vitamin C, thereby maintaining optimum stability of their artery walls.

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but not me...

For what it's worth, I also switched brands on my Vitamin C... Got stuff from a Vitamin store instead of Wal-Mart. Yeah, I know Snouter:rolleyes: ... The good stuff I was able to take in much higher doses w/o any kind of bad reaction. I think I may have had a reaction to a filler in the cheap crap:(
