Does anyone have the symptoms of this 'sickness'? It happens mainly during the fall/winter times due to the lack of sunlight that we get. It causes us to be depressed, tired, etc.

I barely get enough sunny weather, so that doesnt affect me. But some people are like that, I hear that there is a special light you can sit in front of in the morning for 10-15 minutes, and feel better all day.

I get "Moon Phase" depression. When the moon is at its fullest I am full of joy and ahem, lust etc but as it starts to wane I get moody and depressed. It doesnt effect me too much but there are times when I am really down because She is gone/going. the only reason for this is because all of my faith in the moon and rituals etc......so I think I do this to myself lol.

I'm pretty much a night person myself. Given that, if it starts affecting me at all, it tends to be at the very end of winter. As for the light that's supposed to help, I've heard it was flourescent light. Snouter or one of the other serious health experts could probably answer that one for sure though.

Rayne; you sure you're not just a werewolf? http://discussanything.com/Ubb/biggrin.gif http://discussanything.com/Ubb/biggrin.gif All joking aside, some people who don't believe in the supernatural might say it's all psychological. Even setting that aside though, there are plenty of sources out there that document the Moon's effect on people and animals.

Hunting and fishing are supposed to be the best 4 days before or after the full moon. Police will tell you that all the crazies really do come out around the full moon. I'm sure a little research would turn up plenty of other examples, but those are the only ones I recall off the top of my head http://discussanything.com/Ubb/smile.gif

Now that I got my side discusion with Rayne out of the way, I did another web search for you Princess http://discussanything.com/Ubb/smile.gif Here's a couple of sites to check out on Seasonal Affective Disorder as it's properly called:
http://www.mentalhelp.com/SeasonalDepression.html
http://www.psycom.net/depression.central.html
http://www.augustachronicle.com/stories/121796/blues.html

Those were just 3 of the more promising sites that turned up on my web search. MSN turned up 19400 sites on the subject, so there's plenty of info out there for the trulu interested http://discussanything.com/Ubb/smile.gif

Yes....
I never noticed it when I lived down in Florida...but up here in Georgia, it does this misting rain crap all winter long (well the majority of it IMHO). Between the lack of sun light and just certain things that have happened in my life during the Thanksgiving/Christmas holidays....I really just flat out don't enjoy the holidays any more.

I was actually thinking of this "feeling" this weekend....and actually could feel a bit of the on set....

Mine set in this weekend as well..

I have also been dealt quite a bit of tragedy around the holiday season, hence; I dont enjoy the holidays myself.. They seem to just pass me by no matter how hard I try.

I will read up on this, thank you Shadow hawk as always...

I like the Autumn with the cool dry air and colorful leaves. But I don't like the Commerical (Holiday) Season very much. It was always be a source of problems because material things are not the answer to life's quest and after the stress of the Commercial Season there is a collective hangover in the soul.

There goes Snouter getting deep on us again http://discussanything.com/Ubb/biggrin.gif Seriously though, I just largely block out the crass commercialism aspect of the Holidays and concentrate on their real meaning. Beyond a certain point, it can only affect you if you let it IMO. http://discussanything.com/Ubb/smile.gif

I used to get horrible PSD, back when I lived in Pennsylvania...it was at its worst after about a week of ugly, grey skies and snow. Plus I *hate* the cold, so I was more or less locked indoors from mid-October till March, give or take. Even when I was on a totally nocturnal sleep schedule, I didn't feel like that, so I'd have to assume there's something more to it than just lack of sunlight (though I'm sure that does play a part).

i have experienced that before, on a large scale...

i work at a summer camp up in the woods near Big Bear Mountain, Calif. and all the councelors were dragging. I asked one of the teachers, (who is a pagan, and he said it was because the moon was waining, and i agreed with him http://discussanything.com/Ubb/smile.gif )

Seasonal depression can be a real bitch. Just ask my mother, my grandmother, or myself. Mine should be kicking into high gear by the end of the month, and I can feel it starting now.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this nutritional info that relates to Princess' observations.

Be advised this is technical, but here is a quote from my Encyclopedia of Natrual Healing: Regular doses of sunshine have been found to have a regulatory effect on the endocrine system, and help certain cases of over-active thyroid, depression, developmental disturbances and absent menstrual periods.

Vitamin D is known as the sunshine vitamin because it is manufactured by UV rays on the skin, as well as being provided in food and supplements. You can ingest vitamin D, but without sunlight or alternative UV rays, the Vitamin D does not get activated in the body.

Ya know, this is weird. I have been finding myself standing out in the rain, just soaking it up during anything from light rain to MAJOR thunderstorms (even during the last tornado warning we had). And I have noticed that my mood cycles with the moons phases (picked up on this in the last six months).

Just never really paid attention to it. Strange...

WTF!!!!!!!! is it about the rain...

Rain is cold, wet, it brings about colds, the flu, being sick sucks.

muscles are more prone to ache due to the moisture

hair is hard to manage

ITS TERRIBLE to drive in, PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DRIVE IN IT IN LOS ANGELES

TRAFFIC TRAFFIC TRAFFIC...oh did i mention traffic!?

People get into accedents, people cause mayhem on the road, people die

Wet socks, wet shirts, walking around wet.

Puddles to hop over, waves caused by cars running through them to dodge.

Mud caked on your shoes, gets all over your car.

Lighting and thunder makes it hard to sleep (at least for me in LA where we don't get it much)

Power outages, street flooding, Mud slides (lots of them in LA)

Houses sliding down hills because their foundations have been compromised due to the rain

Large surf distroying beachfront houses.

Have you ever been in a Theme Park when it rains!?..i have...they shut down all the roller costers...that sucks too.

So what i am saying...i HATE THE RAIN, and i STILL don't get how PEOPLE LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it trendy...or spiritual?....sorry rayne, i'm into that...(i've been lurking at misticwicks.com for a while)

BUT I CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW RAIN is liked!

the only time it is tolerable...and JUST BARELY...is when i DO NOT HAVE TO LEAVE MY HOUSE...and go out into it.

even then...that SUCKS!

What about when it is 'misting?'

Very foggy, totally cool, refreshing, there is a slight drizzle?

That is awesome.

Pumpkin - get an umbrella is my first comment http://discussanything.com/Ubb/biggrin.gif

With out rain we wouldnt survive....it needs to counterbalance the sun and heat etc.

People die during wet weather because they are idiots.....if we slowed down, looked carefully and just paied more attention the fatalities on the roads would drop drastically!!

Hey buddy boy! You choose to live on fault lines not me - thats why your houses slide all over the place....dont blame the rain! http://discussanything.com/Ubb/smile.gif

Trendy? I dont know....I havent really heard of people loving the rain "cos its cool yo". Spiritual? Maybe - I just love it - it washes away the old and cleases and rejuvinates etc. Im sad Summer is on its way http://discussanything.com/Ubb/frown.gif

Not really. I beleive in God, but, that is about as far as it goes. Certainly not a Holy Roller, haven't been to church, except for funerals and weddings, in almost 15 years. The Mormon detour was not by choice. That was my parents doing when I was in grade school.

Being on this planet for 32 years, there are lots of things I am wondering about and questioning. Not the least of which is the validity of most well known organized religions. I mean, some religions say that if you do not follow their beliefs, you'll go to hell. Based on this statement alone, hell should be quite populated. Some years ago, I would have laughed at the suggestion of me being in tune with E.B.R.'s. Today, I not so sure...

i asolutely adore rain.ever since i can remember ive always loved it and my mom would always take me and my brother outside to play whenever it rained.now when it rains i usually take my dog for a long walk in it.sudden rain showers are the best.they happen all the time in tropical climates but its still warm outside so it doesnt feel like the average dreary rain shower.personally i cant wait till all this warm weather is over so we can get into the whole winter season.yea!

Hmmmm I dont really agree with that....Religion is what you make it....bend it if you like do, what you want with it, it can always be comfortable. Even Atheism (is that even a word?? You know what I mean though) is pretty much a Religion when you think about it...I was previously a staunch Atheist, pretty much thought I didnt have to believe in anything to get through life - and I didnt need to, its just nice to think there are other forces at work http://discussanything.com/Ubb/smile.gif Religion is what you make it....lead dont follow, its far more interesting.

But to get back on topic.....Summer bah! How anyone loves Summer is beyond me....then again Australia gets well over 40 degrees Celsius.....too hot to do anything!

It rained really hard today, it has not rained in a while. It felt good to hear the rain hitting the ground, and I know all the plants will be much greener soon.

As for Atheism (its a word), I suppose Im an atheist, because I do not believe in a god. Unlike other religions, atheists do not share much more than that. We do not have a church, or share other common beliefs like other groups/religions.

I think there is more to life than what we can see, and much more than we can know or explain. By just accepting that, I dont have to fight with others about my god being the right god, or the bible means this or that. Its much more peaceful, and works for me.
