Hey kids, sorry i have been negligent about this forum, but the terrorists ed out my internet. My name is Avi, aka contraband aka no joke. Anywho, we live in an exciting time for consumer electronics, even if military tech is riding shotgun, for now.
Interested in DVD burners? check out http://www.dvdrw.com/
My buddy just told me he is buying a dvdrw for 599 from hp. 599! The masses will be bootlegging like crazy!

The big problem with DVD Burners right now is that the media is so expensive. But give it a year or two...
When I got my first CDR/RW (it was a 2x1x8) CDs cost 2 bucks and CDRW discs cost 20 bucks. Now a CD is a dime a dozen. (Fine not that cheap).
Currently DVD discs can be had in bulk for 10 bucks each. That is the real price that needs to come down for DVDRWs to be huge.
Also, you need to be able to copy DVD movies. :-)

I beg to differ. THe proliferation of digital video has led to a need for a publishing format for such. DVDRWs that play in dvd players could be huge. This guy i was talking about who is getting one, for example, is going to compile all the home video of the sep 11 shizzy on a dvd.

Oh don't get me wrong...I think I was misleading...
That is a niche crowd. That isn't 'big' yet. You're coming form a film major perspective at a film school. Does average joe dickhead want one for any reason?
He would if he coudl
a) Copy DVD movies
b) Get DVD discs for cheap
c) Archive porn
As of now, only option C is available to average Joe...
For DVDRW to be BIG the first two need to happen.
