I was surfing through the satillite TV stations I think it was Friday when I came across World Link TV. They had this Chinese TV brodcast. It was an English Translation of the State (read Communist) TV News. Well the entire news was devoted to this "Historic" congress of the Chinese Communist Party. They old farts were stepping down and they selected a new group of leaders. Well they anounced the new leaders and the congress voted on it. The voice over stated that the new leadership was approved overwhelmingly. They then showed everyone in the assembly raise their hands. It got me to think, what would happen if anyone would say Nay to the leadership. Probibly they would find themselves buried inside the great wall.

Interestingkly, I heard a BBC report on this today and the most striking comment the journalist made was that the Chinese now have retinal scanners in widespread use around government buildings - so widespread that another reporter was arrested for - I think - posessing coloured contact lenses.
