Human Parts Market Booms in Lagos
Sales of human parts in some markets in Lagos is currently enjoying a boom as desperate get-rich quick ritualists search for human parts to make money as the yuletide season approaches.
P.M.News investigations revealed that the demand for human parts is so high now that mortuary and cemetary attendants are making brisk business by selling the parts to herbalists searching for the vital parts.
A visit to some of the markets where human parts are sold shows that the business is no longer hidden as herbalists openly tell their patrons that they have a large stock of human parts. In some cases, these parts are openly displayed for would-be buyers to make their choice.
Some vital human parts in hot demand include: head, private parts, eyes, breasts, kidneys, heart, fingers, hair, blood and toes.
According to Mr. Etienge Iwang, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the state Crime Investigation Department (CID), markets where the parts are sold include: Jankara Market, Lagos Island, Alayabiagba Market, Ajegunle, Alaba Suru Market, Alaba Rago Market, Okokomaiko, near the trailers park and near the Badagry Toll Gate.
A survey revealed that at Alayabiagba Market, Ajegunle, a dry human skull is sold for N9000, while a fresh one goes for N15000. At Jankara, an insider disclosed that since 1990, human parts have been part of the commodities sold in the market.
"Why all the hues and cries about the discovery of human skulls in possession of a man? It is no news that human parts are being sold in Lagos markets. The business has been on for over 20 years. [N]Why all these hullabaloo about the arrest of somebody with human heads?", a source in the market repeatedly asked.[/B]
Meanwhile, the police in Lagos State have commenced a crackdown on markets where human parts are sold.
Police sources revealed that ten occultic doctors are already on their wanted list.
P.M.News gathered that even before the recent arrest of a cemetery attendant with human heads, the sale of human parts had been on the rise in Lagos.
A top police officer confirmed that the police have been keeping tabs on human parts dealers.
"You know these people are very crafty when indulging in these criminal activities. We are looking for tangible evidence to link them with the acts. We are aware of the fact that some people sell human parts in some markets. We have been trailing them," the cop said.
A top security officer at the state CID, Yaba where the two men recently arrested with two human parts were detained, disclosed that the motorcycle operator who carried the man who had with him a nylon bag which contained two human heads has been declared innocent.
"We have realised that he knows nothing about the transaction," he said.
He further disclosed that the prime suspect has made confessional statements which exposed the identities of some of the traditional doctors who received the human skulls which they have been supplying since 1996.
"Most of the skulls were those of victims of mass burial at Yaba Cemetery", he confirmed , saying: "We will soon crack down on them."
