Hey guys, I got some questions, hoping an audiophile can help me out.

I want to get a home audio system for my room. I want to hook my computer and TV to it, in addition to gettign some stero equipment.

I am looking to only spend 300ish (can go a bit higher) on a setup.

Anyone point in a direction, as far as how many speakers/watts I should be looking at.

Should I be looking at shelf speakers? Satelites?

Here are a few systems I've been looking at...
http://www.sonystyle.com/electronics/prd.jsp?hierc=8624x8640&catid=8640&pid=3848&type=p
Thats a 240 Watt 5 shelf speaker + sub system. No CD player, so that would be on top of the system cost...
http://www.sonystyle.com/electronics/prd.jsp?hierc=8626x8643x8640&catid=8622&pid=9712&type=p
This is MUCH more expensvie than I looking at. But the 5 disc DvD/CD changer is nice :-) This is a 550 watt system.

Any help? Thanks!

Hey bro... that system I have set up in the living room was I think close to 500ish...

depending on how sick you want to make it...

Connecting it to the computer is easy if you have a halfway decent reciever...

But thats what Id do is by a multiunit setup...dont try to get all in one... with a reciever you can swap between your 10 different inputs (A. la. TV, CD, Radio, Computer)

as far as speakers go... if you got the cash... go Bose, otherwise those KLH's work fine for me (I think its KLH...Ill check when I get home)

I love it! I don't think they are easy to find anymore, but they are going for as low as $329 on Yahoo. I paid $450 or $475 for mine.

I am also looking at completeing my home system. I already have a Kenwood reciever and a Sony cd player. I have a DVd player and the tv. My computer also hooks into the system. Right now I only have 2 speakers... they are Bose bookchelf speakers. Not positive of the model anymore. What are some good speakers that would complete the surround sound. I know I need the smaller speakers to go behind me and the sub for the senter part but what are some good brands. Also, where is a good place to get them and I would like soemthing that is fairly cheap for me to get. Thanks.

I dont know about alot of brands and prices... but like I said I have KLHs and they are nice, and Ive heard nothing but good (if not pricey) from Bose.

I know this is really old but for what it's worth, I'm not a big fan of Bose. I don't like their idea of how to reproduce sound. Small satellites just can't reproduce the full range of sound that conventional speakers in a well designed wood enclosure can. I know they have their "subwoofer" but it has to either reproduce the extra mid-bass notes or leave them out entirely. It's those mid-bass notes that I think make a sound system sound like crap or excelent.

I'm sure that you have found an excellent system by now however...

(Oh yeah, this is just directed toward full stereo systems. For small computer systems, satellites are great. Who wants (and needs) 6"-10" cones on the sides of their monitors? ;)

I'd have to agree with darkside on this issue. My favorite high end speakers are Polk Audio. Also like Boston Acustic.

Now, for the ones I can afford, DCM Loudspeakers. Got mine at Circuit City for $99.00/ea. and they really sound good, 12" Bass, 6" mid-range and 1.5" tweeter.

OLD JBL's kick ass.
I love em.

Aside from that my old mans electrostatic speakers are UNPARALLED. No drivers, all electrostatic energy. They're huge, like 7 feet tall.

Anyways, how do you hook up a computer to the stereo???

Sorry Manu, but I am going to intrude on your post... :)

I was thinking of picking this (http://www.circuitcity.com/ewebIMa/detail.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0392009160.1010824185@ @@@&BV_EngineID=ccdgadcedkidhdicfngcfkmdffhdffg.0&bookmark=35563&oid=35563) up... it's for my bedroom. Any opinions?

Thanks!

Doh! That bites.

Let me grab the description, I saved it so I could print it.

Kenwood Home Theater System
Brand/Model: KEN HTB204

This system's 100-watt x 5 receiver powers five full-range bass reflex speakers to room-filling volume. A separate subwoofer handles low frequencies with ease. With enough inputs to handle a complete array of source components, the system decodes Dolby® Digital, DTS, and Dolby® Pro Logic soundtracks with 24-bit digital precision. Five additional DSP modes custom-configure other sources. One-touch speaker connections and a Kenwood system remote control add up to an attractive value.

It is listed at Circuit City of $249.

That almost sounds to good to be true.

I have had good experience with Kenwood equipment in the past.

Sheesh, we (my dad first, then me) had a receiver he bought in like 1974 and it was still kickin in 96, cept for the power button had to be replaced.
I used it for my mixing station, when I had my mini recording studio....
Then I got robbed and lost almost EVERY FUKIN THING

Cool, if it sounds to good to be true, it must be a decent thing. I am going to pick one up then.

(When we lived in Chicago, my crib was robbed... I don't remember the incident, but I imagine it must of sucked... sorry to hear about your equipment.)
