Palm grows some new ARMs - Palm announced that it has granted development licenses to Intel Corp., Motorola Corp., and Texas Instruments Inc. as part of its Palm OS Ready program. The licenses will allow the chip makers mentioned above to design chips specifically for the Palm OS, and in some cases, build the Palm software directly into the design of the chips. Read more at Yahoo. This is good news for Palm since it shows that it's ready to let hardware manufacturers play with the OS more. It's almost like the company is stealing a page from Microsoft's play book since now it will let other companies build on its OS. Of course, it will be a while before we even see any of these chips, so it will be interesting to see if the world has any interest in the devices containing the new chips when they finally hit the streets.
