If these conservative politicians are so against people getting healthcare provided at the expense of tax payers than why dont they practice what they preach. The president, every senator, every congressman, every cabinet member, the joint chief of staff and everyone else in government gets health care. If Bush and his chronies really mean what they say then let them foot their own bill for health care.

But don't all people who work for the gov't get health care? Don't most people who work for any large employer have health care?

In many cases no. Large corporations are increasingly relying on contract labor. In the US now Manpower Inc. Most Temporary agencies ether do not have benifits like insurance or will force employees to foot their own bills. I know that this from personal experience. I worked for one company that did not provide insurance and for a family of three I had to pay $500 a month on Cobra. That was almost half my pay. Even the best temp service required me to pay $220 a month. Health care costs are ridiculous.
I would say something else, I would not be so much in favor of National Healthcare if health care costs would be more reasonable. I see no reason why someone who is sick should become bankrupt. Its a crime!

So what you are really saying is you want someone else to help you pay for your insurance.
How about your car? Those babies can be expensive too.

Interestingly enough to me is that from my research 20-30% of the population works for a local, state, or federal agencies. For the most part we the taxpayer contribute more to the social welfare of those who "serve" us than they do to those they "serve".
In a weird sense, by denying some social services we are actually decreasing the work load of these servants and allowing more money to be available to line their pockets. Throw in unions and the scenario is even worse. Granted law enforcement, firemen, etc. deserve reasonable compensation.
The worse thing is that government related wages skew the numbers of a community to where an "average" income of say $40K a year is not truly reprentative of what the parity is among non-tax funded employees.
Oh well, atleast these guys aren't as greedy as your average doctor.

From andrew sullivan:
"The final move in Al Gore's shift to the left came last week, according to ABCNews.com's The Note. He has now formally abandoned his earlier centrist position on healthcare and plumped for a Canadian single-payer system of the kind specifically avoided by Clinton. It's good to know that this is the new Gore: statist, populist, and the most left-wing member of the current group of Democratic contenders. Maybe he should take a look at yet another story from Britain's vaunted National Health Service. Here's a testimony[http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/2253201.stm] from a man who is still attached to the idea of collectivist healthcare, but who saw what it means when it mattered most. He needed urgent radiotherapy for a brain tumor. Nuh-huh:
[T]he best estimate I could get from the NHS was a six week wait. I have medical insurance through my employer and I am lucky enough to now have started privately arranged treatment on Wednesday, less than two weeks after my diagnosis. There are thousands of cases like mine every year in this country and most will not have that option.
Notice that in Britain, if you actually need good care, you have to both pay higher taxes and get private insurance - for healthcare inferior to much that is available here. This is what Al Gore wants to bring to America. At least now we know."
