View Full Version : Bush's hard line seems to be more effective than Clinton's pandering...interesting soylentgreen 11-13-2002, 01:39 PM Iraq Accepts U.N. Resolution: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,70231,00.html The Frog 11-13-2002, 02:30 PM I still say Saddam will try something that ends up getting himself killed. I say go with the policy 'Any building he says is off limits, or delays the inspectors by a hour or more, call in th coordinates and have it blown to bits.' just so there's no misunderstand of what Unconditional means. soylentgreen 11-13-2002, 03:09 PM Frog, I must admit that I'm suspicious too. But, I think the consequences for "acting up" should be swift and decisive this time. Manu 11-13-2002, 04:18 PM Well hopefully we can avoid a war and there is no 'acting up.' SG- If they let us go in for a month or so, im confident a response would be swift. We've been moving equipment and personel there for months. soylentgreen 11-13-2002, 04:42 PM Originally posted by Manu Well hopefully we can avoid a war and there is no 'acting up.'I don't want to see a war either. But, I think Bush played this one very well. He made demands and backed them up with force. That is the only way to deal with people like Saddam. Threaten force...and follow through with it. In the year and a few months since Sept 11, 2001, Bush has accomplished more than 8 years of negociation by Kofi Annan and Bill Clinton. Amazing. QtrHrsmn 11-13-2002, 05:15 PM It ain't over yet, people. We shall see as time goes by. I for one, vote ANY delay should be instantly punished by removal of inspectors, and replacement by martial law. U.S. Martial law. But, I think that's what GWB has planned. I tell ya, if he pulls this off, he'll be remembered NOT for the 2000 election, NOT for school grades, NOT for being his father's son, but FOR being one of the greatest and best loved presidents of all time. I don't like him personally, but if he DOES pull this off, he may even bring some stability to the middle east. I could go for re-electing him for that. "Greatest and best loved presidents of all time" That's some scary ****... ChaoticThoughts 11-14-2002, 01:08 AM Well, now that it has come to this point, its all politics/action/relations. Will it turn into a political game like last time? Will action be taken at the first chance, or with justified reason? And depending on the first too, will international relations suffer or improve? Manu 11-15-2002, 04:39 PM Alex, any calls that his actions will bring stability to the mideast are WAY off right now. We can't even begin to think about that as we prepare for a military incursion which usually (temporarily at least) destablizes the region. SG- I think you're making an apples to oranges comparison with Clinton vs. Bush on Iraq. The world was an entirely different place. Bush went with the 'world' on this and made sure he had their support. This is support that we COULD NOT have gotten prior to 9/11 especially from Russia, China, or France. Further, as MANY people have pointed out, Clinton WANTED to go in in 98, but he was restricted mostly by an American populace that did not seem that enthused about it and by a world community that did not. So, to reiterate, its an apples to oranges comparison. |
