View Full Version : Wicca...
Monster 11-05-2002, 10:05 PM There's this girl, Lisanne, she's a freshman MT (Musical Theatre major) in my class...not overly religious, but she's a Mormon, and I was trying to talk to her to find out what the Mormon take on Wicca is...but I found I don't know enough about it to talk to her intelligently, so I was wondering if any of you have either a good summary of it or a website I could go to (or several) that would help me out.
...help?
Scott 11-05-2002, 10:19 PM try searching google dude ;)
Dilbert 11-06-2002, 05:20 AM I'm no mormon, but if it's anything like mainstream Protestant Christianity then the mormons would treat Wicca as an evil, deceptive manifestation of the Occult.
Oil and water, dude.
Monster 11-06-2002, 12:44 PM Probably true, but I'm curious nonetheless.
WiccanMommy 08-20-2004, 04:05 PM 1. mormons treat us as heratics, like most christain based religions go
2. a good site for learnin and information is www.witchvox.com
vedder 08-20-2004, 04:16 PM I am assumming all "People of the Book" (Christians, Muslims, Jews) would consider it heratic
WiccanMommy 08-20-2004, 04:36 PM christians shun us (i shun them right back) lol
jews just roll thier eyes at us (i roll back)
most muslims want us dead lol
Monster 08-20-2004, 04:41 PM I would expect that a lot of the Jews who practice Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism) would be more accepting, since a lot of Kabbalistic practices and rituals can trace roots back to the earthly "pagan" religions.
WiccanMommy 08-20-2004, 08:55 PM they arent as tolerable as you would think, at least not any that i have met
Feenix566 08-23-2004, 05:50 PM i just roll my eyes at all of you :nice:

Myrddin 08-23-2004, 11:47 PM There is nothing wrong with Wicca;there are aspects of Wicca which are close to my own beliefs and some which I don't agree with, but I also see wisdom in some Christian teachings but I strongly disagree with some of its other teachings. I respect peoples right to follow what ever belief they want.
Monster 08-24-2004, 12:34 AM The problem, Myrddin, is that, while you respect a person's freedom of belief, a lot of the "believers" don't. I don't have a problem with religious people more often than not, until they become missionary types. As soon as a person says "you should..." and justifies it with religion, I tune them out.

I agree entirely :)
On a kind of related note, a girl I used to know was a believer in Wicca (not sure if that is the correct term), and she had to go to her sisters wedding, in a church. She said afterward she was half expect a lightning bolt to come down from heaven and smite her at the door, and a big booming voice to say "get out you heathen!"
:D

All religions stem from the same desires in man; I too would not like somebody trying to convert me because to me that would be saying they believe their religion is absolute truth. If they annoyed me enough I would subject their truths to intense logical analysis and see how they liked it.
The thing I like about Wicca is the respect it has for the Earth, but all superstition I reject in any religion.
i just roll my eyes at all of you :nice:

Tala Hotyk 09-02-2004, 06:10 PM Witchcræft is a nature religion which teaches respect for life and tolerance of other pathways. There are many different beliefs covered by the blanket term, and nearly as many ways of practicing as there are Witches.
One of the things that is best about the Cræft is its lack of hierarchy and regulations. It allows one to write ones own rituals and pronounce them from the heart and soul, rather than from a page written by someone else.
It requires you take individual responsibility for your actions. You are the Priest or Priestess, and you have the personal relationship with the deities of your choice. Since the only true rule of the Cræft is that you should harm none, it makes you examine what constitutes harm, and what ramifications there may be from your actions. Witchcræft is not an easy path to follow, but if you work very hard, truly learn your art and craft, it can be the most rewarding and beautiful way of life there is.

I knew there must be at least one other Witch or Wiccan who's been lurking here.
Who else is lurking in the shadows?
igofast 09-07-2004, 10:55 PM :p I was making fun of the phrase.

You're worried about talking intelligently to a member of a group that believes Native Americans have red skin because they were cursed by God?
Just bang her like a pagan would.
