Well, didn't mean computer games :P

Geoff-

An RPG is a roleplaying game. Its a pen and paper game where you assume the 'role' of a character and play out situations/events.

My favorites are probably Dungeons and Dragons (cause im old school like that) and Vampire the Masquerade.

I don't do the pen-and-paper ones, and I tried a couple online ones but didn't get a good group of people.

So now I'm trying it again here in the Hobbies forum with my murder-mystery RPG. Soon we (TGM and myself) hope to have a variety of styled threads. Murder-myster, fantasy, horror, and I just as I type this thought maybe a soap-opera/romance thread would be frikkin' funny.

Shouldn't this thread and most of the RPGs be in The Gamers Haven, just a thought.

I always wanted to get into D&D but never found anybody to play with. Other then that I've been in most of the online ones that Zach's been in, and he's right not really a good group of people, they got bored and stoped posting, which is the exact oposite way things work here, so yay lets get Role Playing.

GreatMonkey-

Scott and I occasionally play, we should all get together.

(Gamers Haven was meant for 'video gamers' haven, so I changed the name to reflect that)

Oh, cool. I haven't played much of the d20 DND system.

It looks good though. They addressed basically all of the issues with the old system.

Oh it has its bugs but you can just Rule 0 them :)

The best thing is you don't need to be a math major to play ;)

I used to play Warhammer RPG (my fave)

also I did alot of playing with RoleMaster, and MERP.

played some RuneQuest as well..

I always liked games that had kinda a dark, gritty celtic feel to them
D&D was just too colorful for me. At least the whole forgoten realms thing was

DND was your very typical fantasy world where there was basically a 'bit of everything.'

I enjoyed the Dark Sun setting for DND, largely because it was totally different, and there was a common denominator that linked the 'evil guys and good guys,' the harshness of the world they lived in.

I always hated D&D. I found Dave Morris' game, Dragon Warriors, to be very inspiring in my youth. I think the main edge Morris had on Gygax was that he was born in Britain and was therefore really able to give his rpg a fantasy spirit. Also, he didn't have a broom up his butt.

(Rust monsters? Gelatinous cubes? Purple worms? What the f***?)

After a certain point I stopped playing RPGs I didn't make. I actually had a game called Twilight, which was a universal system (that made sense, unlike GURPS). I playtested it extensively, illustrated it, edited it, and fizzled out when it came time to publish. I still have a couple copies lying around; the cover images were sweet.

Manu, what did you like about Vampire? Did you use the sourcebooks etc, did you play live action, or did you just base it loosely off of what there was in the main rulebook?

Tried playing D&D once, didn't quite care for it. Last year at college became addicted to online MUDs.

Don't play anything these days.
