View Full Version : What RPGs ya play? Manu 11-05-2002, 07:38 PM So....what ya play? Scott 11-05-2002, 08:53 PM i refused to be nerdy... i won't go first ;) Kraw 11-05-2002, 09:20 PM dunno what they are, so I guess none? AverageJoe 11-05-2002, 10:22 PM blah blah Morrowind blah blah the greatest RPG ever blah blah . . . just thought id say what i know at least several people will say anyway, and get a jump on things. Manu 11-05-2002, 10:58 PM Well, didn't mean computer games :P Geoff- An RPG is a roleplaying game. Its a pen and paper game where you assume the 'role' of a character and play out situations/events. My favorites are probably Dungeons and Dragons (cause im old school like that) and Vampire the Masquerade. Monster 11-06-2002, 01:40 AM I don't do the pen-and-paper ones, and I tried a couple online ones but didn't get a good group of people. So now I'm trying it again here in the Hobbies forum with my murder-mystery RPG. Soon we (TGM and myself) hope to have a variety of styled threads. Murder-myster, fantasy, horror, and I just as I type this thought maybe a soap-opera/romance thread would be frikkin' funny. TheGreatMonkey 11-06-2002, 01:49 AM Shouldn't this thread and most of the RPGs be in The Gamers Haven, just a thought. I always wanted to get into D&D but never found anybody to play with. Other then that I've been in most of the online ones that Zach's been in, and he's right not really a good group of people, they got bored and stoped posting, which is the exact oposite way things work here, so yay lets get Role Playing. Manu 11-06-2002, 02:07 AM GreatMonkey- Scott and I occasionally play, we should all get together. (Gamers Haven was meant for 'video gamers' haven, so I changed the name to reflect that) TheGreatMonkey 11-06-2002, 02:19 AM Originally posted by Manu GreatMonkey- Scott and I occasionally play, we should all get together. I'd love to play with you all, it should be loads of fun. Originally posted by Manu (Gamers Haven was meant for 'video gamers' haven, so I changed the name to reflect that) Oh, what a rip off:p Grizzly 11-06-2002, 08:43 AM I play with a group od people in Greyhawk d20 version. I also DM for the same group in a Forgotten Realms Campaign. In fact we will be playing tonight :) Manu 11-06-2002, 04:19 PM Oh, cool. I haven't played much of the d20 DND system. It looks good though. They addressed basically all of the issues with the old system. Grizzly 11-06-2002, 04:21 PM Originally posted by Manu Oh, cool. I haven't played much of the d20 DND system. Oh it has its bugs but you can just Rule 0 them :) The best thing is you don't need to be a math major to play ;) RightWingZealot 11-07-2002, 01:54 PM I used to play Warhammer RPG (my fave) also I did alot of playing with RoleMaster, and MERP. played some RuneQuest as well.. I always liked games that had kinda a dark, gritty celtic feel to them D&D was just too colorful for me. At least the whole forgoten realms thing was Manu 11-07-2002, 02:19 PM DND was your very typical fantasy world where there was basically a 'bit of everything.' I enjoyed the Dark Sun setting for DND, largely because it was totally different, and there was a common denominator that linked the 'evil guys and good guys,' the harshness of the world they lived in. NachtWolf 01-13-2003, 01:24 AM I always hated D&D. I found Dave Morris' game, Dragon Warriors, to be very inspiring in my youth. I think the main edge Morris had on Gygax was that he was born in Britain and was therefore really able to give his rpg a fantasy spirit. Also, he didn't have a broom up his butt. (Rust monsters? Gelatinous cubes? Purple worms? What the f***?) After a certain point I stopped playing RPGs I didn't make. I actually had a game called Twilight, which was a universal system (that made sense, unlike GURPS). I playtested it extensively, illustrated it, edited it, and fizzled out when it came time to publish. I still have a couple copies lying around; the cover images were sweet. Manu, what did you like about Vampire? Did you use the sourcebooks etc, did you play live action, or did you just base it loosely off of what there was in the main rulebook? --Mark Swappy 01-16-2003, 10:31 AM Tried playing D&D once, didn't quite care for it. Last year at college became addicted to online MUDs. Don't play anything these days. Grizzly 01-16-2003, 10:47 AM Originally posted by Swappy Tried playing D&D once, didn't quite care for it.
