View Full Version : Favorite Sport to Watch?
DaOgre 06-22-2001, 07:51 PM Whats everyones favorite to watch? And I mean something you watch on TV... because we all know watching the event in person is different... this also means its gotta be televised... nail biting competitions dont count...
Me? I pick football... the only other sport I really like watching is basketball, which I didnt really care for until watching the finals... I like when each game means something...which basketball and some other sports loose when theres over 100 games per team per season.

DOG, n. A kind of additional or subsidiary Deity designed to catch the overflow and surplus of the world's worship. This Divine Being in some of his smaller and silkier incarnations takes, in the affection of Woman, the place to which there is no human male aspirant. The Dog is a survival -- an anachronism. He toils not, neither does he spin, yet Solomon in all his glory never lay upon a door-mat all day long, sun-soaked and fly-fed and fat, while his master worked for the means wherewith to purchase the idle wag of the Solomonic tail, seasoned with a look of tolerant recognition.
Ambrose Bierce (1842 - 1914), The Devil's Dictionary
I gotta say basketball.
Most of the other sports are jusqt way too 'slow' for me. There is CONSTANT action in basketball.
Football - Lets run a play for a few seconds, and then wait a minute for the enxt play.
Baseball - We're going to hit the ball, run a bit and then stop suddenly.
Just doens't do it for me.

College baseball is ridiculous. They need to stop letting them use those aluminum bats. Not really into the butts but I understand your motivation. I love watching womens college field hockey. My alma mater has a terrible team but they play nationaly ranked teams but I have to admit I love watching those fit girls running up and down the field in those short skirts. I might have to continue this in the new forum.

Basketball not baseball. The basketball is the one that is orange and big and played with 5 people on each side. Baseball is the one with the white ball that is hit with a bat.

cosmic overdrive 07-04-2001, 12:30 PM Hockey is one of the few sports I watch, but since they have Eastern Europeanized it and punished the Western Canadian style of battling, I don't watch it much.

That is pretty interesting. I like to watch the NHL but only during the playoffs and the Stanley Cup finals. Why don't you elaborate a bit about your comments that cause you not to watch as much.

Powerboss 07-18-2001, 08:07 PM The NHL. I am a hockey fanatic.
I can understand some peoples dissapointment in the sport of recent years. The clutch and grab style of play sucks. Also, with the implimentation of defensive systems; neutral zone trap, 2-3, offensive production has dropped dramatically. The rinks should be enlarged to olympic sized rinks to create more open ice.
The europeans have brought a lot of skill and finesse to the game and have lost some of the hitting.
I personally love hard hitting (but clean) action.

slayr420 07-20-2001, 02:04 AM Another one for hockey. I spent most of my life playing it, and watching it excites me almost as much as playing it.
Also, I don't believe the NHL has really canned the traditional "old time hockey". Look at the Flyers... ever since they merged, actually, even before they merged, they have played the same rough 'em up style. I have yet to go to a fightless Flyers game, and I usually see 4-5 a year.
Guess it all depends on who you root for. Rangers suck.
Powerboss 07-20-2001, 04:42 AM How do you like getting Roenick?
He's got some wheels, he should fit in pretty well there and contribute.
Yes, the Rangers do suck!

slayr420 07-21-2001, 01:24 AM I think he may be the final piece to the puzzle. Every year for the last 6-7 years, the Flyers have been flirting with the Stanley Cup... they had the Devils a few years ago and blew a 3-1 lead hoping to save some energy for the Cup, and then they got swept by the Wings... anyhow, they needed another little speedy top rated player, and Roenick is a good match, who can also bring some physical play too.
The Flyers weak point last season was centers, and now they've beefed that up. Jeremy Roenick, Keith Primeau, and Jiri Dopita. If you haven't heard of him, he was a star in the Czech leagues, and center when they won the gold at the last olympics. I'm figuring if Roman Czechmanek is good, so is Jiri. Now all they need is a 3rd line RW to play after Recchi and Tocchet. They upped the defense with Eric Weinrich, which takes all the pressure off of Dejardins to be a scorer.
Winning 43 games and 100 points actually was quite amazing with Tocchet, Recchi, Gagne, and Primeau missing 60 games, and LeClair only playing in like 15. Injury free, and the Flyers may infact win it all this year.
