The "Funny story" that i wrote earlier didnt follow the assignment so here is my actual fantastical story...this one is pretty short... read it and tell me if its good :)
"Sam, It's time for lunch," Janice called, tapping lightly on his bedroom door. Inside she could hear him talking to their golden retriever.
"Okay Spud-Nick. You hold this end of the rope and I'm going to swim into the river and rescue the princess!"
"Sammy. Come have your sandwich, dear and then you can rescue the princess later..."
"Okay mommy," he called back. He handed the rope to his dog, "Spud. Don't let this go boy, whatever you do. I'll be back soon."
Sam skipped into the kitchen where his housekeeper, Rosa, had laid out a five course lunch for him. Soup, sandwiches, salad, celery sticks, fruit salad, pudding....covering a substantial part of the dining table. His mother came into the dining room, hand to ear, trying to push in the posts of her pearl earrings.
"Darling, I need to run some errands, Rosa has made all of your favorites and your little friend Bailee will be here any minute to dine with you."
She kissed him on the forehead, leaving behind a thick 'kiss me, crimson' lipstick stain. Sam wiped it off immediately.
"Mommy. Can you..."
"Dear- mommy's late. Ask Rosa for whatever you need and I'll see you for dinner."
Sam picked at his salad, making a fort out of sesame noodles and garbanzo beans.
"What'cha doin?" Bailee asked, hanging her coat over a chair.
"Nothin..."
Before his friend could dig in to the buffet, he grabbed her by the wrist, "Come on! I gotta show you something."
She let herself be pulled along, latching on to a handful of potato chips as she passed the table. He stopped her outside of his bedroom door.
"What is it?" She asked.
"Give me just a sec. I don't want to scare them away."
She began to respond, "Scare WHO away?" -but Sammy had gone in and closed the door behind him.
"Spud, keep holding the rope," he instructed his dog, "I've brought reinforcerments!" He slowly opened the door for his friend, "Be very very quiet Bailee or you'll startle them."
"Startle who?" she asked in a stage whisper. She joined him beside the dog who held a rope in his mouth, leading into the dark closet. "What's your dog doing?"
Sam took hold of the rope. "Thanks Spud, you done good."
Bailee looked at him funny, "Um..Sam?"
"Shhh," he told her, "Just take the rope and whatever you do: Don't. Let. Go!"
He disappeared into the closet as his friend held onto the rope. She heard him call for the princess and yell at someone named Grumio. Finally he came back, drenched in what appeared to be lime jello.
"I can't find the princess," he said, defeated.
"I want to be the princess!" Bailee exclaimed.
"No, only the princess can be the princess," he declared matter-of-factly.
"Then I don't want to play this game any more!" She decided and stepped into the closet to browse through the toys.
"No, don't go in there!" Sam cried. But Bailee was gone. He sat down on the foot of his bed, hugging his dog close.
"Man Spud, not again..."
He thought briefly about going back into the other dimension, but he knew no efforts could bring his friend back. He'd tried to get his mom to stop planning these playdates but she never seemed to hear him.
"Sammy dear, is Bailee staying for dinner?" She asked him that night.
"No mommy. She...left."
His moher frowned, "Oh well I guess she was on her way home when her parents called."
"She was definitely on her way somewhere," Samm thought. He'd never found any of his friends who'd been caught in the closet, though some of his animal friends in there bore striking resemblances.
"Mommy, I need to go look for the princess," he told her and went off toward his room.
His mother sighed proudly, "What an imagination that boy has!"
