Of course Id be the one to post this thread...

Cyberpunk Vs. Shadowrun

I like cyberpunk more, and think Shadowrun is a total rip of it... and I believe it pays no homage to its roots... more than that I just think Cyberpunk is grittier and better...

Anyone elses thoughts?

------------------
DOG, n. A kind of additional or subsidiary Deity designed to catch the overflow and surplus of the world's worship. This Divine Being in some of his smaller and silkier incarnations takes, in the affection of Woman, the place to which there is no human male aspirant. The Dog is a survival -- an anachronism. He toils not, neither does he spin, yet Solomon in all his glory never lay upon a door-mat all day long, sun-soaked and fly-fed and fat, while his master worked for the means wherewith to purchase the idle wag of the Solomonic tail, seasoned with a look of tolerant recognition.

My mian gripe about shadowrun is its system. I think it is crap. (Especially with the revised rules.)

That said, it is a hacked version (pardon the pun) of cyberpunk. I don't really have an issue with that, as MOST games are a hack from a previous companies endevors.

Cyberpunk I think just has a cooler 'world' than shadowrun.

Give some specifics of your likes and dislikes . . . I'm familiar with both, but I've never played either.

Well basically Dave...

I like cyberpunks world a bit more. It is our world, but a bit futuristic and dark as hell. I think shadowrun, with the addition of magic, supernatural and mythical creatures becomes a bit less dark. Shadowrun is a world that has undergone some dramatic changes, and I just don't like it all that much.

It feels that SR is a CP hack, that needed to add all this 'crazy' stuff in order to be a viable different game. Even terminology (that was crafted by Gibson and CP) are used in SR.

I prefer the CP rules system and rules resolution over SR also.

Did the same people do the games? I know that happens alot.

Now, it could have been the same 'people' but I know it is a different gaming company.

And Shadowrun didn't have Gibson in it.
