I was watching something on very late at night, and some old guy was claiming it wasn't. He said you could skip on them, and not get in trouble. But Im sure plenty of people get arrested with tax fraud or something if they didnt pay.

i dont see why its illegal. The Congress makes laws, and they make a law that people pay income tax. That sounds pretty legal to me.

I would never try it, but apparently hundreds of people do each year. The IRS only has the resources to collect about 83% of taxes owed. Some slip through the cracks. Some get away with it, at least for a while.
I do know of one person who has managed to escape paying personal income tax for three years. He simply has nothing withheld from paychecks, no tricky stuff, is a regular wage earner. I don`t think it is right. It just intrigues me that it can be done, at least for a while. It can be hard to get blood out of a turnip, even for thr IRS.

I got a bud at work who never pays taxes and tells me that there is no law which says he has to. What he says is that if you are working somewhere, you do not file a W4. What you file instead is an Affidavit stating you are a US Citizen. The only people who need to pay taxes are foreign nationals in the US and US citizens working abroad. I dont know if what he says is true. I myself have enough trouble in my life that I dont want to take on the IRS. If you need more info on this check out the link below:

This guy I know says that the IRS defines income only as corporate income and that his personal earnings are just labor traded for money. He files a 1040X that says he is exempt from taxes. Crazy, huh. I have $1,000 a month in fed. tax held out of my check and all he pays is social security.

Thats a great link! Thanks..

I have a story about my uncle. In the 60s he owned & ran a Trucking/Freight Company in Oregon. By 68 he owned 7 Tractor-trailers. Somehow he thought he wouldnt have to pay income taxes. He was making about 150,000 to 250,000 a year.

In 1973 he was audited. Somehow he brought this to court and they found in the IRS's favor. He owed like $5.2 million in backtaxes, penalties, court costs, and additional fines. I believe to this day his and his wife's paychecks are still garnished.

Unfortunately, yes. If you want a fairer tax system, I suggest supporting those who propose a National Sales Tax that would REPLACE the Income Tax.

Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution says:

"Section 8. The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States..."

Here's a good site for a reference...

Legal or not, I`d advise paying your taxes. Imagine going into federal court and trying to convince a judge whose salary is paid for with income taxes that income tax is not legal.
Sorry for that run-on sentence.
