Why do they bob their head when they walk?

Perhaps the movement helps them see bugs or something. Or it is the natural movement, like we might lightly swing our arms, but dont need to in order to walk.

Actually you almost hit the nail on the head CT... if youve ever tried walking without swinging your arms... or even worse, try swinging your arms backwards... (normally when you step with the right foot your left arm goes forward) you will find yourself "in a world of shit". The reason being we use our arms to counterbalance our legs as we walk...you can not do it... but it makes you less stable. Its most likely the same thing with birds bobbing their heads
