Despite what Clint Eastwood sez, I know it's not the .44 mag. I've seen .30-06 hunting pistols before... so what is it?

Nevermind the barret. Methinks that's a load of bullshit now. But the bolt action one I confirmed as legit.

Yeah I think both are BS...that gun looks like a paintball gun http://discussanything.com/Ubb/smile.gif

The reason the .44 magnum is so powerful is because its a magnum...

basically that means they pack alot more gunpowder in the bullet so it makes a bigger bang when you pull the trigger...

the desert eagle is pretty damn potent... but I couldnt tell you which hurts more to be shot with...both would probably suck

Nope, not both, just the first is BS.

The second one however, I'll admit it looks like a paintball gun, but it's far from it.

I found out about the thing here (http://home.sprynet.com/~frfrog/miscella.htm#powerful).

I would say the 44 Mag. There are others with more power and larger calibers, but most of them are specilty type, and wildcats. The 454 Caussal has more power and is mass produced, but I still consider the 44 Mag still holds the title of Worlds Most powerful Handgun.

Thats my opinion, but opinions are like *******s , everyone has one , each, uniquely his own.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

Production guns:

The .454 Cassull is considered by most to be the one. The Ruskies have an 11.7 mm handgun that's ugly . . .

BUT, if you consider the Lahreinne company to be "production", then I'm betting they have it. The .575 Lahreinne has a proven track record of one-shot kills on bull elephants . . . on a charge. It's a back-up gun for dangerous game hunters. And, hehehehe, there IS a .675 version, as well.

As for the .50 BMG "handguns", Barrett makes their stuff about 100 miles from me, and I haven't even heard jokes about a handgun. I imagine that's bs. The BL-50 weighs between 25 and 40 pounds, and, at that weight, is comparable to a 12 guage magnum. I can't IMAGINE one in 7-10 pounds . . . which would be the weight of a handgun . . . and a heavy one at that.

How about the Thompson Center Contender Chambered in .45-70 .... Close range (as a handgun would be used) the .45-70 has alot more energy than a .30-06.

I imagine that even at 100yrds a .45-70 would pack more punch than a .30-06, and a 100 yards shot with a 'handgun' is a long shot.

I'd have to look it up in my reloading manuals to know exactly how much more energy it has.

I'll bite at 100 yards, but watch it drop off like Donald Trump's net worth after about 300 yards. A 30-ought keeps on humping out there into the 700 yard area (basically, it's a .308 GT, and .308's are the normal round in 1000 yard comps).

And, since there probably aren't 1000 people in the world who are accurate at this range with a .308, it just doesn't matter, does it?

LOL!

Besides, the .575 L has more energy that a .416 Rigby . . . and that blows the .45-70 out of the water (I BELIEVE??).

True, the .45-70 has the trajectory of a brick. I have a .30-06 (Remington Sportsman 78) and agree with you 100%; the longest range I have shoot is 100 yards and I can put five consecutive shots in a quarter at that range (from a bench). But if the .30-06 is sighted (zeroed) in at 100 yards it will have a 20+inch drop at 1000yards (and this is assuming you are using the bullet with the best ballistic coefficient, witch I believe would be a 165/168gr boat tail).

On a side note have you ever looked at the 8mm Rem Mag cartridge? It’s impressive (but not chambered in a pistol that I know of)

I’ll have to look up the .575 L (it has to be a wildcat); I’m not familiar with it ….. How does it compare to say a 375H&H or a .460 Weatherby? (The .460 has 7,507 foot-pounds of muzzle energy, that’s with factory loads too!!)

The L rounds are based on the Blackhawk frame.

I don't know the specs on the round, but I know they HIGHLY recommend the shooter be 250 pounds or heavier . . . for the .575. They ONLY recommend shooting the .675 in a life-threatening situation! LOL!

Check on the net for it!

I personally don't know, I thought it was the Tokarev 14.7 mm but according to this:

The CA 4000 large frame revolver chambered in .454 Casull is the largest of the line and the most widely known. This revolver is touted as "the world's most powerful handgun". In fact, the energy and velocity generated by this revolver puts it on par with many high powered hunting rifles, even taking "Africa's Big Five". The large frame revolver is designed to handle the pressures generated by the super-charged .454 Casull cartridge.

from here (http://www.casullarms.com/revolvers1.htm)

the .454 Casull is. I'll keep researching, but for now, to my knowledge, in a commercially produced handgun (not a custom chambered round) the .454 Casull is king.

In a related search, the most powerful CUSTOM I've come across is a .600 from SSK (http://www.sskindustries.com/bio.html) These are all customized Rugers, like these:
http://www.sskindustries.com/images/rugers.jpg

and range from 50 x 70 x 750 to a .600 JDJ

I want one! LOL

The most powerful handgun in the world is the one with the psycho holding it...

The 44 Magnum is not the most powerful handgun, nor is it the most powerful revolver. The most powerful production revovler is the 500 Smith and Wesson Magnum. The 44 Mag was invented by Elmer Kieth in order to counter the inadequacies of the 45 LC and the 44 Special. Elmer was sick of having hand loaded 45 and 44 loads blowing the backstrap off of his SAA Colts. He Went to Smith and Wesson and had them make a prototype revolver, that became the Model 29 Smith and Wesson. As far as the most powerful handgun goes, the trophy would have to go to JD Jones and SSK industries, who have taken the TC Contender and integrated it with JD Jones' whisper and wildcat cartridges, some of which are capable of stopping and elephant charge. The most powerful contender yet made, to my knowledge, is the .577 Tyrannosaur custom Contender, but it was not made by SSK. The most powerful handgun ever is the Maadi-Griffin 50 BMG.
