Each person has they're own discription of "The Best Game Ever". espacialy since I'm not limiting this to video games. Hell I'm sure that from one day to the next some of our choices will change.

Contra all the way. That game is too good. I also like Madden '95 and Gameday '98.>_< And who can forget Metroid!

I like those the best. I like team game a lot.

Manu- I have never heard of those games before. What consoles were those on?

im not sure if its the best of all time, but bionic commando for the NES was pretty awesome and it usually doesnt get the praise that it should. i think it all comes down to the contemporary technological capabilities, so there is no "one best game." like quake I was a big deal when it came out, but now if you go back and look at it it doesnt seem like anything special. and today everyone gets caught up with the hype of fancy graphics that more often than not the games just flat suck. just take a look at all the lame 1st person shooters out there that are just ripoffs of each other. i thought zelda: ocarina of time for the N64 was pretty awesome plot and graphic-wise for its day.

Peak of video game designing came with the release of Super Mario Bros. 3.

Stuck with 2D but ripe with secrets, playability for multiple age groups, appeal to a broad audience. Familiar controls but more options.

Best. Game. Ever.

Best Game Ever would have to be (I can't believe some of you haven't said this yet)

Duke Nukem 3D

Graphics weren't the greatest, but the gameplay was the best.

Just last week. Saturday to be exact, my wifey got me a neat little gizmo from Avon. It was an old Atari joystick that hooks up to the tv and plays ten old Atari 2600 games, Centipede, Missle Command, Gravitar, Asteroids, Pong, Breakout, Circus Atari, Adventure, Real Sports Volleyball, and Yars Revenge. Kewl stuff.

Well, along the linse of Mario 2 or 3, which were not bad, I have to go with Sonic the Hedgehog.

There was a game that came along LATE in the Sega Genesis lifecylce called Gunstar Heroes. The first use of multiple sprite bosses as well as tricks to make the old Genny display more than the 64 colors it was capable of. It was a killer game.

Silpheed for the Sega CD was awsome in many ways. FMV cinema shots, awsome sound track and great special effects. Only problem was the gameplay SUCKED.

But, I am rambling now. I'll shut up.

There was a flight sim game in the early 90s called "Aces of the Pacific". Extremely realistic yet really fun--a Zero only took a few shots to take down, but if you flew one, they'd turn on a dime, etc. etc. And you didn't need to learn all the bullshoy that's required of today's rather stupid flight sims.

I don't think a day goes by and I don't at least play five minutes of "Championship Manager".

And, on the old 8-bit Nintendo, "Super Dodge Ball".

Same here. It was an amazing game, but it was much too detailed, so it kind of sucked you inand you stopped living properly. :( I was on Catskills.

One night I decided to max out my stats and GM all my skills... I was in front of the computer for over a day, without leaving the desk at all. And then I decided to kill a dragon without magic or armour, that took a long time :)

yeah UO was nuts.

I would commute into the city two hours.. work 8 hours.. then commute back hom3 2 hours
only to spend the rest of the night chopping wood to make bows and arrows for my guild mates. dont ask me how it happened but my character made bows that were INCREDIBLY powerful. I think it was some sort of bug. People were constatly having me make crossbows for them.
Anyway.. i would do that.. then go hunting around for regs all night.. and then as I was about to enter a dungeons to actualy have some fun 10 PK'ers would jump out and kill me and my two buddies before we even knew what happened and they'd take all our stuff.

I cant believe i played that game so long.

They were both on Apple IIE, atleast thats where i played them.

One was Oregon

And the other was 'Moon Patrol' or something. You were driving this tank thing, it shot up and forward at the same time. You jumped holes and shot rocks and spaceships. Anyone know?

Tennis. I used to love playing tennis. I've spent many an hour out on the clay.

As far as non-physical games go, I'd have to say some of the best times I ever had were playing pen and paper D&D back in the day. Dorky? Yes. Fun? Hell yes.

Video gamewise, I'd have to say Ultima Online back when it was first released. No game since - including UO itself - has so well captured the feeling of a true virtual world.

And single player video games? Twisted Metal 2 for the original Playstation. As far as pure fun goes, it couldn't be beat. Though Silent Hill was really an excellent game. It honest to goodness scared the piss outta me and damn near gave me nightmares. The very definition of hell would be being trapped in that town.

Ok, I'll stop typing now...

Two of my favorites for PC are Heretic ii, and Sanitarium.
I really enjoy the complete mobility of the character in Heretic ii, made available through the use of a mouse-look placed within the game engine.
As far as Sanitarium, what can I say.
A game where you wake up in an asylum with your head bandaged, and through the three cd roms you try and figure out who you are and how you got there while drifting in and out of drug-induced periods of hallucinations.
What fun!

best dream cast was soul caliber
best ps2 so far is ffx, kingdom hearts, vice city, etc
the best cube is mario, and i havent played many others

man and thats just console games!
computer wise i liked, ugh, so many- kings quest, shivers, seventh guest, duke nukem, myst, warcraft/starcraft, i sold my soul to eq for a year, diablo 2, vampires masquerade, umm and i can't remember anymore right now :D

WipeoutXL and Twisted Metal 2 for the original Playstation. I have very fond memories of those two games. Oh, and Tekken 2 as well.

And the other was 'Moon Patrol' or something. You were driving this tank thing, it shot up and forward at the same time. You jumped holes and shot rocks and spaceships. Anyone know? I know what you mean, and it isn't master blaster. Master blaster was about a lost frog and a truck with a gun that could jump on the NES. :)

Now if someone would just make a remake of is, keeping the scenarios and mechanics but with, say, Deus Sx II Physical and Graphical engines, and an improved ennemy AI,that'd be heaven on earth ...

They ought to improve the stealth aspect as well - the possibility of a little Thief-style sneaking wouldn't go amiss.

If we look back a little ways, we'll see Super Mario 64, THE MOST revolutionary game of all time, who could forget that? Plus, if you sat there, he would sleep! Yaaay, but also, for the PS, anyone heard of Jade Cocoon? Sorta like pokemon, but a little different cuz YOU can fight too. Driver was a kickass game, flyin down streets gettin chased by psycho cops. A more recent game, Metal Arms: Glitch in the Sytem, is a cross-breed between Ratchet and Clank (great PS2 game) and Halo (awesome FPS). It's really funny, give it a shot, available for the next gen systems, and they NEED to make it for PC, need 16 people to play THAT. Ocarina of Time, rediscovered by me, another classic! The Super Smash Bros. and it's sequel were the only fighting games of their classes, and they both were actually kind of funny. Imagine, Nintendo's classic characters, beating the s*** out of eachother!:P

Over and OUT!

I played WoW for ten days and one month (the ten days you can get for free from a friend and the month you get with the game) - I have no idea how people get so obsessed over it, but I think it's the kind of thing that's not fun unless you play it all the time. It's an unhealthy game, I think.

How ya describe best?

So hard...

Most timeless? Most captivating? One I have fondest memories of?

In no order...

Kings Quest III

Kings Quest III!!! I haven't thought about those games in years!!

Remind me, is Kings Quest 3 the one where you start in that Wizard blokes house. He keeps teleporting in and telling you to feed his chickens etc.
I'd say Kings Quest VI was the best from that series!

Oblivion being a close second, and probably Civilization IV taking third!

The 'Withnail and I' drinking game.

The rules for the Withnail and I drinking game are very simple… just match Withnail drink-for-drink in the movie. Last one still conscious wins.

Withnail drinks in the order of 9 1/2 glasses of red wine, 1 pint of cider, 1 shot of lighter fluid (substituted with rum), 2 1/2 shots of gin, 6 glasses of sherry, 13 whiskeys and 1/2 a pint of ale throught the film.

If you feel like putting your 2 cents in, here's new project where each gamer make his/her top 25 favorite games of all time (1st=25pts, 2nd=24pts, ..., 25th=1pt), and those results are compiled together in real-time to decide the world's favorite games.

Here are the current results (http://www.unikgamer.com/tops/greatest-video-games-of-all-time-1.html) that involves 981 gamers so far.

Other top-lists are also available (by years, decades, genres, systems and even a Top 10 most wanted) for you to mess around with.

Post the link of your Top games and feel free to discuss your choices!
It's a really fun concept, especially if you're a longtime gamer (and bored :D).

I've enjoyed a lot but I guess here are my top 3

Mass Effect 1 and 2 (Can't wait for 3)
Neverwinter Nights 1
Dragon Age : Origins

As you can see, I like a game with a great story.

Starcraft 2 is fun as well, but it gets boring as time passes. It's the same build over and over again.

I like CIV III, but don't have time to play it much.

I also like Red Baron II, especially with the mods put out by some individuals, who added better terrain and plane graphics and more 'realistic' engine mods and ammo factors, and of of course historically accurate planes. Great stuff.

I also like MS's Age of Empires, the Age of Kings, and the Conquerers additions. Some of the 'campaigns' are good.

'Vega$' is also enjoyable for me, I like some of the economic and business games, personally, though they're boring to most people. 'Industry Giant II', 'Free Enterprise', and last, but not least, the 'Railroad Tycoon' games by Sid Meirs, and the old 'A Train', put out by a Japanese game company a long time ago.

There are some free games on the music business and newspaper business I've downloaded, but haven't got around to playing yet, that look good business sims, though lacking graphics and the usual bells and whistles.

Me and some friends of mine are playing around with creating an Election game, one that covers local elections on up to national level offices, but we aren't very diligent about it, and may just make it a paper and pencil game, maybe sell it to Steve Jackson or something for pocket change. Political sims don't sell well.

Elder Scrolls: Skyrim has wrapped it's teeth around me and shaking furiously. Fucking amazing! If you like fantasy, rpg in an open sandbox world, run, don't walk to your nearest game store and get this EPIC gem.

Skyrim is the best game to come out in years, and probably will be until they bring out the next one.

Best game ever is hands down Final Fantasy 7 for me. Next is a toss up between age of empires and portal. Elder scrolls Morrowind doesn't hold much to skyrim but I think it is on par for it's time.

There are so many great games. Choosing just one would be a disservice to all the others.

I like a lot of the innovative indie games that are coming out these day (which may or may not be "retro"). Not least because of their cost. I just picked up Darwinia and Multiwinia on Steam and they look really interesting. Bigger budget games I enjoy include Bioshock, Civilization IV, Portal and Call of Duty II (I don't exactly have the most powerful computer so most of the current crop are off-limits). On the iPad I recently bought Shardlands, which is nice, relaxing fun, and I have Cut The Rope, Shark Dash, Geared 1 and 2, Pinch 2 HD, Tangle Master and Whale Trail – all really good cheap or free titles. I'd love to get the new F1 game with a steering wheel and seat, but that will have to wait until a future Mac upgrade. And, of course, I love and am fascinated by chess, card games, quizzes and traditional games of all sorts.

But my favourite game of all time? Probably Rainbow Islands on the Commodore Amiga, back in the 1990s.

Civilization and call of duty are both heavily played by the males in this house, too .

It's obvious to anyone who isn't a deckchair peddler that World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck is the best game ever.
