View Full Version : Undiscovered creatures
Corporate Avenger 10-25-2002, 10:55 PM Do you believe we've discovered all the large animals on this planet? Yes? No?
We hear about Bigfoot sightings, Chupacabra Goat killings, giant sea creatures, etc.. And now enormous Birds.
Is it possible that a huge Bird species has manage to elude us all these years? Yes? No?
Kinda of like a modern day Pterodactyl??
Look at this story out of Alaska >> http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/West/10/18/offbeat.alaska.bird.reut/
Monster 10-25-2002, 10:59 PM HAH! Riiiight.
How far down have we explored? Subterranean and aquatic?
What about those theoretical caves/chasms that extend down miles and miles into the earth? And the Challenger Deep?
I'd say we've discovered maybe 5% of the creatures that Earth is home to.

Dilbert 10-25-2002, 11:03 PM For the most part, I'd say it's all down on paper. Probably the best chance to discover something big and new would be in the deep ocean.
RightWingZealot 10-25-2002, 11:31 PM No I do not believe we have discovered them all.
There are more things under heaven than are dreamed of in our philosophies.
The vast majority of the ocean (like 90% i think) has not yet been explored. who knows what hangs out down there?
Snouter 10-26-2002, 12:50 AM There is some speculation it was a Steller's Sea-Eagle which can have a wingspan of 8 feet.

jillianjiggs 10-27-2002, 08:29 PM I don't think we know every thing that is out there. We're still making huge discoveries in the rain forests and oceans. It is entirely possible for some of these creatures to exist, however, I feel animals like the chupacabra are mainly folklore.

and NO.. we have def not found everything out there
jadatrack 10-27-2002, 11:15 PM there is no way that we've discovered everything in the ocean. maybe on land, but i still don't believe so
Monster 10-28-2002, 12:10 AM And let's not forget microbes.
Unrepresented 10-28-2002, 12:29 AM We haven't discovered everything, but the evidence lies against the existence of "monsters."
Bigfoot, nessie, yeti, et al. are non-existent. Why? Because to exist you must breed. Numbers are necessary to sustain a breeding population. Numbers that allow "monsters" to find each other also tend to allow humans to find them.
More importantly, monsters tend to be the easiest to find. They're the things that we'd be looking for the most because in theory they're the greatest threat to us. With the power that these monsters tend to have, they should be in theory dominating their environment.

Monster 10-28-2002, 01:29 AM Nessie was also an admitted fraud. A guy admitted that he built a thing out of wood and claimed it was Nessie.

But there have been sightings of Nessie-like creatures in places all over Europe...they may migrate and breed that way...they could be asexual etc.
(Im Scottish I gotta believe in Nessie!)

You haven't heard of the Chupacabra? Where you been?? :D
It apparently came from Central America and made it's way up to the states in the late 90's. I had a close encounter with one in 1997 in the California desert. It was pretty scary..
Chupacabra (http://paranormal.about.com/library/weekly/aa042202a.htm)
Man, thats a GORGEOUS bird.
Regardless, im fairly confident we have NOT found most of everything, especially if we're including the oceans.
ESPECIALLY if we take things down to smaller (rodent) sized.
About 15 years ago, we thought the ocean bottom was a dead, barren, area devoid of life. We now realize it is teeming with life and much of it is VERY macroscopic.
We are continually finding new insects, recently ginding an entire new ORDER of insect.
We have lots to find still.
Grizzly 10-28-2002, 09:02 AM I have seen studies down on the rainforest where they have found a new species of insect every day sometimes more.
Down in the ocean depths there has been evidence of gigantic squids.
I think there probably is alot out there we don't know about.
Think of it like this...today's wildlife has learned to fear humans so when they see/smell/hear a human they tend to run and hide. So the possibility that something like a bigfoot could have learned humans are dangerous and now takes the flight instinct and hides from humans is possible. This would explain why some people find evidence and sightings but noone has a clear picture or caught one.
Then again some of these people could have been on heavy medication as well :)

yep.. purdy.. I would not hesitate to put "the heat" on him if he came around here ;)
Rayney 10-28-2002, 09:31 AM Eep! But probably not true... (http://paranormal.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.rense.com/ufo/chupaOZ1.htm)
Rabid Fire Breathing Kittys own JOO!

Heck no. We haven't explored everything, therefore, the possibility of large animals being in the sea is there.
We hear about Bigfoot sightings, Chupacabra Goat killings, giant sea creatures, etc.. And now enormous Birds.

Of course. No one has been able to definatively define the Thunderbird of legend. Some say it was a condor, but legend says it was large enough to carry a child.
I think those kinds of birds are still out there. Somewhere.

This is true. There are thousands upon thousands of specimens preserved on the shelves of universities and museums that haven't even been classified yet because there aren't enough scientists in that field.
