Ya know, back when I was younger, the tobacco industry was set on its ears when the Government decided to prohibit them from advertising cigarettes on tv, or in any place where a minor could see the ads. At the time the alcohol industry was also prohibited from advertising hard liquer (whisky, vodka, etc). All they could advertise was beer (and now wine-coolers).
Recently Alex and I have noticed that Smirnoffs and a few other alcohol manufacterers are once again, advertising hard liquer on tv. I've seen run commercials, smirnoff and Jack Daniels sofar and I am sure the others are not far behind. And as a funny aside--beer commercials have declined. Personally, I would like it if neither the alcohol or tobacco industry to pander their crap on tv. Seems to me, that both are drugs. Both should be banned from advertising in places kids can see it.

Tami-

I've also seen a Cptn. Morgan ad. I don't think it was ever a governmental ban on it, but rather the manufacturers decided they would stop the ads, and recently I think smirnoff decided to start doing em again, so of course they all will.

Personally, I am not sure how much the ads effect our children. I think that from TV shows, movies, etc there is enough exposure to alcohol that minors will make thier choice to drink regardless.

Manu, my concern is that as always, these ads make drinking seem glamorous. You know, drink the booze and get the cute chick, or be part of the group, etc. For kids today, that seem to lack enough self-esteem to be their own person, this kind of advertising is meant to sucker them in, no matter what the industry says. Just like the tobacco industry denied their advertising was aimed at kids. To me they say, that to be cool or part of the crowd, you have to drink whatever poison they are advertising. I think kids are suseptable to this kind of hype, more so than seeing some guy in a suit, sitting drinking a scotch on the rocks with his wife. That's my concern, HOW they are pandering it.
