View Full Version : Senate on the brink?
DngrMse 09-29-2002, 02:51 PM Two senate seats currently occupied by Democrats may well be the proverbial 'foot in the door' for Republicans come Novemeber.
First, we have Torricelli from New Jersey, who is now 13 points behind his Republican challenger. Torricelli, for those who don't know, accepted a large number of expensive gifts, and cash from a supporter, (Chang, currently in prison), in exchange for certain favors. Torricelli denied any wrongdoing, and the Senate admonished him. Torricelli appologized profusely, while at the same time denying he'd done anything wrong.
The second seat, held by Harkin of Iowa, is a little shaky too. It seems that one of Harkin's staffers arranged for someone to attend a private meeting for Republican challenger Greg Ganske, and secretly tape it. The tape was transcribed, and leaked to the press. Harkin's numbers are in free fall, two of his campaign staffers have been given the boot, and Harkin claims nothing illegal was done.
So, it's refreshing to watch the Democrats shoot themselves in the feet, all the while claiming that they're innocent, and being victimized by 'unethical' Republicans. LOL.

That little crook should be in jail.

At the very least, the Senate should have booted his ass out, (and he could have taken his chances with Justin's wolves).
But that would have been the right thing to do. <<sigh>>

Yes. Yes, they do.
Mines a cool painting of Willie Nelson, (I think). His beard is just a bit fishy though.
Its funny they boot the likes of trafficant but not boot these two clowns.
DngrMse 09-30-2002, 12:36 PM Torricelli is now being pressured by the DNC to drop out of the race entirely. Not to rub this in anyonese face, but they could have avoided this by giving Torch the boot when they had the chance....but when it comes to hypocrats, it's not about the people, or the country, or whats right, its all for the party.
As evidence of this attitude, I humbly submit the following:
First, Torch himself. Korean business man Chang is in federal prison for giving illegal gifts to Torricelli. However, no evidence exists showing Torricelli ever accepted any illegal gifts....uh, right. So the Senate, (Controlled by the 'crats), severely admonishes Torch....because this was as severe as they could get, and still maintain control of the Senate. It's coming around to bite em all in the ass. Ha ha, funny!
Second, the Jeffords switch. The people of this country voted a Republican majority to the Senate, but that was'nt good enough for the 'crats, who fished around, and found a willing traitor, and orchestrated a change in power NOT based on the votes of the people. See, it's about party, all about party.
Thirdly, the Florida fiasco. When the initial counts were completed, the 'crats immediately took it to court, (and cried like the bedwetters they are when the Republicans responded in kind). When they lost the recount, and the recount of the recount. And even lost the recount of the recount of the recount, they still tried to force more recounts. It was'nt about who won, or lost the state, it was about which party was in control of the fed gov. It was'nt about the 'will of the people', never was, and never will be.
DngrMse 09-30-2002, 02:13 PM And the Torch goes out. The only drama left in this story is who will the DNC put forth to take his place?
Also, to be legal, he has to resign his seat, not just drop out of the race. Eeeentresting!

Nah, just the difference between the Rep controlled House & the Dem controlled Senate -- especially the committees. A few Reps might care about something other than themselves.
Anyone who thinks senators are not the most parochial states rights stick-your-head-in-the-sand for foreign policy egotists in the US should watch senate hearings a little more often.
Unfortunately if T resigns his seat, it being Joisey ANY democrat not in jail will handily win over the weak, unknown, Republican running for the job.
