What can I say...AMAZING!!:nice: I could never believe that Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks would ever reunite for a tour, and I wasn't expecting it to sound like back in the old days, considering Brian isn't what he used to be because of what he's been through, Dave Marks was not in the band for over 45 years and Jardine hasn't played with the band for 15 years or so. It turned out I was absolutely wrong!:D:nice:

The set list:

Do It Again (the best choice to start the concert with!)

Little Honda

Catch a Wave (sounded AMAZING!)

Hawaii (David Marks sang that one, it was great!)

Don't Back Down

Surfin' Safari (all of those early hits sounded every bit as good as the original recordings, it's amazing how much Mike Love's voice hasn't changed in 50 years, and great guitar playing by David Marks:nice:)

Surfer Girl (they all sang it in harmony, while Brian sang the middle part and really did a good job!)

Please Let Me Wonder

Marcella (one of my favorite songs EVER, and I consider it to be the most underrated one by the Beach Boys, I couldn't believe they played it, that was like a dream come true! Brian sang lead on it, unlike on the original version, and his voice was amazing on that one, he was also dancing at the piano and having lots of fun, can you believe it! However, David Marks, although a great guitarist himself and sounded wonderful on most solos, couldn't do Carl Wilson's lead guitar the right way, and it goes to show how fuckin' great and underrated Carl was as a guitar player, he was really exceptional:()

This Whole World (another one of my favorites, originally sang by Carl, but Brian's lead vocals sounded great and it was a very good performance of this song. Carl would've been proud:))

Then I Kissed Her (Al Jardine's voice hasn't changed at all, and possibly got better with age)

Disney Girls (Bruce Johnston is amazing, what can I say, that was some of the best singing I heard that night, or ever, as a matter of fact, his voice hasn't changed at all, and his higher notes were unbelievable:nice: Great and underrated song too!)

In My Room (Everybody sang so great on it, Brian no longer sings the high parts really, his guitarist does, but it sounded just like in the old days)

Kiss Me, Baby

Isn't It Time (a nice song from their new album)

Why Do Fools Fall in Love

When I Grow Up (to Be a Man) (all of the songs above sounded just like the originals!)

Cotton Fields (Al Jardine is just AMAZING! What can I say, that was a GREAT performance!:nice:!)

Be True to Your School (Mike Love showed some of his vocal range on this one and it's unbelievable how young his voice sounds for a guy in his 70s:))

Ballad of Ole Betsy

Don't Worry Baby (Brian's guitar player sang the lead on that one, but he sounded just like Brian)

Little Deuce Coupe (Mike Love was absolutely amazing!)

409

Shut Down

I Get Around (Those 3 early hits sounded just like in the 1960s, every bit as great!:nice:)

(Intermission)

Add Some Music to Your Day
(with just Brian playing piano, and all 5 of them singing by the piano, what a fantastic moment:D!)

Friends (Brian's 2 daughers, Mike's daughter, Al Jardine's sons and even Dennis Wilson's and Carl Wilson's sons (one that looks and sings EXACTLY like Carl!) came on stage and sang lead on it...the talent is passed to the younger generation obviously:))

All This Is That (the parents and children sang that one together:)

California Saga: California

Sloop John B (GREAT!)

Wouldn't It Be Nice (EVEN BETTER...Brian's singing was amazing!)

I Just Wasn't Made for These Times (This was some of Brian's most soulful singing I've ever heard...very touching)

Sail on Sailor (Brian did an AMAZING job singing this song, which is one of my favorite, even though he didn't sing the original version, Blondie Chaplin did, but it sounded great and that's one of my favorite songs of all the time!)

Heroes and Villains (Brian did great, so did the entire band)

That's Why God Made the Radio (a very good song from their new album

Forever (with Dennis Wilson's per-recorded vocals, the band backed it up very good and it was just WOW!)

God Only Knows (same as the above, with Carl Wilson's per-recorded vocals and the band doing their job so well, it sounded every bit as good as the original version!)

Good Vibrations (Brian and Mike sang it great and the band was wonderful, great performance!)

California Girls (Mike Love still got it!)

Help Me Rhonda (Al Jardine sounded as great as ever, and David Marks played the lead guitar PERFECTLY on that one!)

Rock and Roll Music (very nice!)

Do You Wanna Dance? (David Marks didn't play Carl Wilson's solo like it really goes, I guess nobody can do what Carl did, but nevertheless it sounded fantastic)

Surfin' USA (Mike Love ROCKS!:nice:!)

Encore:

Kokomo (Mike's vocals seemed to be a bit tired at the start of the song, but then then energy came back and it sounded wonderful, with Brian on the background vocals!)

Barbara Ann

Fun, Fun, Fun (for the last two songs, Brian left the piano, got his bass guitar and really rocked it with the band! It was really 1963 all over again, as Mike, Brian, Al and David were doing the Beach Boys dance, and Brian was having a real good time on stage, for the first time in 45 years or so, the band played and sang amazingly well and they were just having FUN FUN FUN!:nice:)

Of course, it's not the same without Carl and Dennis. Carl was a great band leader on stage and his soulful voice and fantastic guitar playing was really missing that night, of course, as was Dennis' energy (a very underrated concert drummer who also had amazing unique vocal and songwriting talents). Even amazing musicians from Brian's band and Mike's "Beach Boys", who augmented the band, couldn't make up for them.

However, the good news is that Brian was REALLY back this time and hasn't sounded so good since probably the 1970s, not only that, but he actually looked like he was enjoying being on stage this time and it really added to the spirit! He can't really sing high anymore, but his middle and lower range sounded strong and the emotions in his singing made up everything. It was also nice to see him play a bit of bass guitar again, just like in the good old days:nice:!

Mike Love sounded every bit as good as ever (I saw his "Beach Boys" about 8 years ago, so I wasn't surprised that his voice stayed the same), and especially Al Jardine (who took over Carl's job at leading the band, and his solid rhythm guitar is what holds the band together) and Bruce Johnston, who's vocals didn't age either. David Marks played some amazing guitar (most Carl solos he could play exactly note for note), although some stuff only Carl could do, and of course his background (and occasional lead) vocals were a great contribution!:nice:

What a great show, I hope those guys will keep playing together even after this tour!:nice:
